Cool stuff!

Hey Catman:

Take pictures of your heli and generator and you can upload them to Runryder to your gallery tomorrow (free uploads on mondays).

Would be cool for everyone to see how you did it.

First Flight

After about 10-15 minutes of bench time and 45 minutes in the air. Voltage was 5.14vdc when arrived home. Motor, Diodes, Regulator, and Mounting all in good shape. Now I don't need to worry about those 40 minute flights.

catman3070,
Did your reverse the starter shaft one-way bearing? If not, how did you get the starter shaft to be driven?

Thanks,
John

If you remove the torrington bearing from the clutch, turn it over and reinstall. This will drive the motor at all times. Only thing you need to do, is when you install the coupler, you need to install spacer under. If you don't the shaft will fall and the clutch will hit. The coupler I used was the smaller and there is not need to drill. If you would like some more info or pictures, I can send them direct.

Update

Was able to get out and do some flying today. After 1 1/2 hour of flying, only used .02vdc of battery. I feel a lot more comfortable flying now. Having the battery die on me in flight, cost me $230 in repairs. I didn't dare fly past 2, 15 minute flights without recharge before.

For those who have requested pictures of the Predator set up. I will get them to you tomorrow. If you need any help with the set up just let me know. It took me about 4 hours and $116, and is worth every cent.

can you please post the bill of materials

Going to do it also, could you post the diode spec's, any part #'s and photo a hand sketch of the bat, switch, ubec, wirings as layout into the rx.I know the general layout is posted but the ubec factory schematic is a just bit nerving since it all go directly into the main buss of the rx.
I'd hate to let the smoke out of the rx.

Predator

For those wanting to set up on a Predator. If you are using a front mounted rudder servo. I don't think it will fit. I am looking at other mounting options. I haven't seen the carbon, but from the pictures it appears it will work.

For those worried aboutdoing the set up. For a small fee, and cost of material. I am sure Raja, or myself would build all components. This would require only installation on machine.

Selling the complete setup

If you guys are interested I would be willing to kit, build and setup the generator circuit so that all you have to do is mount the motor to your heli and plug in the regulator output to your receiver.

As it stands now the cost of buying all the parts to make this thing from seperate vendors is about $135. For $180, I can put it together for you and send it out.

Let me know if there is considerable interest, at which point I can try to cut the cost down by buying in bulk to make all the kits rather than one by one. If we can do that then I can pass those savings on to you guys.

Thanks,

Capacitor

To those of you starting to build diode board. If you do a lot of idle (auto rotations) You may want to put a larger capacitor on board. This will help to keep from using your battery as much. The larger you go the more power it will retain.

I put together the components to build a kit & used 2 X 2200mf 35V capasitors in parallel. If their put in parallel you add the mf capasity. & the "cans" are smaller for a more compact package.

WHAT TYPE OF DIODES ARE YOU USING ???

Can someone please answer this very simple question ?

It has been asked several times by many others and people are just either skipping right over it or just avoiding to answer it.

Thank you !

Any fast switching diode capable of 35V and 6A. Look for one with a low forward voltage.
I am using a DPak surface mount device from National semiconductor.

Hope this helps.
