I just put together a standard Logo 10 with the following equipment:

Hacker C50-15L
Master 48-3P Heli OPTO
15 tooth pinion
Titan 5s2p Lipo

When flying it, the rotor speed maxed out at 1800. With this pinion, I expected the RPMs to be above 2000. I then realized that the governor function was turned on. (The motor got pretty hot too - 180 degrees after 5 min). Someone at my field told me that this motor won't work with a governor. Is this true? Why did it seem to work???

There is no such thing as a motor that does not work with Gov mode. Any motor works just fine in or out of gov mode.

Its the ESC that determines how well things work in gov mode.
Your radio also has to be programed properly - throttle curves and all that.

In my experience, the Hackers are not good at gov mode.

What are your throttle curves set to? Thats probably why head speed is low, but I dont know the Kv on that motor, so I cant do the math. Could just be wrong size on pinion.

180 is pushing it temp wise on that motor.

I personal would not use the governor mode on the Hacker Speed control. Only had marginal luck with the governor mode, Seems to have a lag/delay when trying to keep the blades at constant speed. With your set-up you should be able to get a head speed as high as 2300-2400 rpm @ 100% throttle.

C50-15L 1760kv
32,500 rpm with 5s2p nominal voltage of 18.5vdv
200 tooth main gear
15 tooth pinion
Gear ratio 13.33 to 1
32,500/13.33=2438 max head speed

Hope this helps.

Assuming those numbers are correct (they look good, but I'm too tired to do the math), then you really need to change pinions.

2400 is way too hi. If you use the controller to lower you head speed it is going to be running way to hot and is likely to blow. Thats very hard on the ESC.

I would set it up so you get around 2000 max at 100% throttle, no gov.

I also have the Hacker ESC. If I go with non-governor mode. What is a good thr/pitch curve to start out with? Motor is B15-15L with 14t pinion.
I am using 2400 NiCd and 3300 MiMH. The heli is set up to give -3/+15 pitch. The ESC is a Hacker 48-0-Heli
Thanks for the advice
