i will be purchasing the Himax 4200kv motor and using a 2100mah lipo battery.
Will it be ok for me to use a 9T pinion on the motor?
i will not be doing any 3d or aerobatics, just hovering and FFF

any comments much appreciated

I think it would be better to go with a 8T. It will be less stress on lipo and motor. Just be sure to get the gear mess right if you go with the 8T. You will need to elongate one or both of the motor screw holes in the frame just a tad. A little round file will work great.

8 or a 9 tooth sounds good to me. I run a nine and everything is fine.
Same motor and Phoenix 25.

I admit, i'm a heli addict...

I would always start with a LIKE 90 8 tooth pinion FIRST as it's the least agressive for the motor[least load].. Depending on your setup and blades etc you could try the 9 tooth also,,,but why tempt fate? Get the 8 tooth and the 9 tooth but start with the 8 and move up. It will be easier for all the components,,motor ,battery etc with the 8 T but maybe you will want the 9T if your really advanced and don't care about duration.
