Hi all today while executing a stall turn my 26PUH quit abruptly while in a steep nose down altitude, then burst into life again a second or so later, at first I thought it might be a tuning issue, but after removing the plug it looked perfect, then I thought it was possibly a fuel pick up problem, has anyone else had anything like this happen while performing stall turns? I might have to look at the pickup system and possibly re do it... any ideas?

Do you have your pickup ala Bill Meador? That is, 2mm thin wall tygon and the stens/poulin ceramic clunk?

Also:
have the tubing come in from the side of the tank, run to the far side, and turn coming back placing the clunk almost to the original tank side wall. This allows it to move freely and stay immersed in fuel better than other methods. (This using the stens 610-381 clunk or similar types)

Yup, you need to get the 2mm ID thin wall tygon and the stens 610-381 or poulin 530-014362 ceramic clunk filter. they are both the same clunk. Do like AGRAV8 said and put your fuel fittings on the side and make sure the line is long enough to make a 180 turn in the tank and come back to the center of the tank.

btw, that clunk will suck the tank dry. ala my first auto with the benzin

Here is a very crude picture of how it should look in the tank.
With the 2mm ID thin wall tygon there isn't a place in the tank the clunk can't get to. The stuff is very flexable.

Problem
With this 180 deg. setup my clunk is staying at the top of the tank in a tail down position, ala tail down funnels, etc. This is not good! Am I doing something wrong? I ran it to the back and did a 180 back to the center of the tank on the side wall...

Thanks,
Chris

"fuel tubing

who sells the 2mm (thin walled) tygon tubing?"

I got soaked for mine in a local small engine repair shop. They had several sizes to choose from though.

With the right 1/8"/3.2 mm OD (yes, outside diameter) Tygon tubing and the Stens clunk there is no way the tubing can keep the clunk from going where it wants to go which should be the same place as the fuel wants to go.

> who sells the 2mm (thin walled) tygon tubing?

Yep, any small engine shop should have it. It is used inside fuel tanks of chain saws, etc. My local shop was pretty reasonable price wise.

Well, Damn
I am using the 2mm ID. MrDHEJ stated it was 2mm ID???

Now I'm confused.. Guess I need to find this 2mm OD stuff! Thanks JKos. You are always a HUGE help!

Also, I am using the birdcage looking fuel filter. I believe it's made by Silver Streak. Will this work the same as the Stens 610-381? That one is next to impossible to find.

This picture shows the one I am using. It is the one on the right that has black plastic surrounding the felt:

When refering to tubing, the inside diameter is always listed first.

You want to get Tygon F-4040-A tubing.
2mm ID x 3.5mm OD x 0.75mm WALL

In inches, if your a die hard SAE fan the measurements are 0.080" x 0.140" x 0.030" that is IDxODxWALL

btw, there is only one wall thickness for 0.080" tygon, 0.030".

There is no replacement for the stens/poulin cermic clunk. If you really can't find it anywhere let me know, i have an extra.

hmm...
I have that line from Ricks on my bird and have found atleast with my engine that it is cold blooded and if I try to idle up and start doing flips without say a minute of flight it has coughed inverted before.

It is called "getting heat in the motor", and it is no surprise....run it up to temp (just like your car) before dogging on the throttle. Nothing to do with the ID of the tubing.
