East Coast Scale Helicopters... Are you kidding us?

I found their link on RR main page. Looks like they have all the Vario heli kits and scale fuselages and lot more. My friend told me that their prices are too high. I was just browsing their online catalog and came a cross some familiar products; Hobbico Reflex XTR simulator and Futaba GY401 gyro(w/o servo). I couldn't believe the prices!...

Looks like they are in US. What are these prices?
Are they kidding us?

Or am I missing something here

It's the Mecedes Benz theory. Buy expensive heli, pay way too much for accessories. I think they call it prestige.

Yeah if the accessories are mercedes benz, I would understand to pay a little more. However, the accessories we are talking about(like gyro Futaba GY401) are not custom made for their helis. I have no word for their heli kits. If it is quality stuff then they can ask more for it. However, that futaba GY401 can be purchased for less than $139.99 My buddy got one for $109.99.
Wondering now how they would explain this price difference to their richy customers.

This is just ridiculous.

I think they charge extra for the hyphen in "Satisfaction" ! Maybe they need to pay a proof reader.

The reason for the silly prices on some items is quite simple. When Joe Howard became the sole importer for the Vario range, rather than retype the entire Vario catalog into his web space, it was transferred directly from Germany and a multiplier for the exchange rate was put in to convert from Euros to US $.

Vario in Germany is not in the business of manufacturing gyros, radios or servos, but there are some places in the world where these things are difficult to get and so they want to be able to supply a complete kit to their customers, and of course provide the support neccessary for this, so, they put these items in the catalog at a price which reflects this.

I doubt if anyone in Europe or America for that matter, would buy electronics from Vario, its simply not their scene, but if you are on the moon and want only one box delivered, Vario will supply everything you need, at a price, which I think is an excellent business policy.

I think if you order one from Joe, you will find its not actually in stock, so not only will it be expensive, you will have to wait for it, but then he doesn't expect to sell them anyway because he is well aware that there are cheaper places to buy that kind of stuff from, so why waste money keeping it. And if a customer orders one from him, it has to come from Vario, he cannot buy elsewhere and sell it as a "Vario" product.

East Coast Scale has been around for a long time and now they have the sole Vario importership, they will be around for a long time in the future, but maybe they wont sell too many GY401's

As a rule, all electronic items from Germany are expensive, no matter the brand, and that is why we do not carry those parts. But, when the store is set up, you must download the entire database from Germany, and the part is there, regardless of whether we sell it or not, at the price Germany has set forth for that part. Any smart consumer in the US looking for scale model will know this, and not even ask if i can get the parts, since all the electronic parts including servos are readiliy available elswhere.

Well if you're going to put up a website that sells a product, a customer has the right to know what he can and cannot get from you. Maybe you and your German partners ought to get together and put together a catalog of products sold in the U.S. With a U.S. price tag attached to it. You only hurt yourself when you post European prices because when a customer see's a 401 priced at $300 he will assume everything else you sell is overpriced and will immediately go elsewhere.

magicly the link for the 401 isnt working.

here was my reply from them about the prices......

These electronic prices are from Vario in Germany, and as such you will not see us import any gyros or other electronic items into the US, when the prices have this much difference than the market price available here.

Himm,

I am wondering if they are right then why did they disable the link. If you think that you are 100% right to do that whatever the euro-dollar conversion, Then go a head and put that link back up, and let people decide who is right here. I am just laughing.

Surprisingly XTR link is still there. The price for it may not be as exaggerated as GY401 price but it is still expensive by 349.83/199.99=1.75 times.
You only hurt yourself when you post European prices because when a customer see's a 401 priced at $300 he will assume everything else you sell is overpriced and will immediately go elsewhere.
I would read these words again and again. There is no explanation for what is being done here. If you sell the items for lot more than what they are worth, then we go elsewhere. Just like that.

Regards

As Joe Stated earlier East Coast is not in the business of selling the electronics due to the conversion rate.
Have you ever purchased a scale helicopter item from Joe or anything for that matter?
I purchase fuel from Joe and other accessories Joe has to be one of the best guys in the business he would go well out of his way to make a person happy. I needed a spacer for a KSJ part that the screw came out of loosing the spacer and Joe machined one up for me while I was there how is that for service.
You are blowing this whole thing WAY out of proportion there are many happy Vario and Joker customers that will back me up that Joe is the best.
So give it a rest.

Thanks

Mike
