Going to be visiting my folks in Dallas next week over the Christmas hols, any good hobby shops over there, I know about the one in Louisville but that is quite a way out

What ? Lewisville is only 15-25 minutes from most any part of Dallas.

For Heli's they are about it. BTW Dallas is about as big as the UK,
can you be more precise on your location?

Mike's is huge but no heli's whatsoever. Aerohobbies is great with parts for many heli's. On saturday's 9-12:00 many heli pilots meet and fly at the 114th Aerosquadron field (http://114thrcaerosquadron.com/). To my knowledge there's no other DFW area hobby shops that can get a beginner off the ground. Andy is a great ombudsman for heli's.

Carrollton is about a 15-20 minute car ride to Aerohobbies. It's about a 30 minute ride to the field in Grapevine.
