Im looking for a kit to put my OS 60 into. I ve heard alot of good thinks about the raptor 50 and it seems very affordable. Can I fit my 60 into the 50 size heli, or do I need to go get a raptor 60? Thanks for you help.

Jason, you won't really find a "kit' to put the motor in. You will have to make or have made, a motor mount. Do a search for RunRyder member TURBO STEW. I think he's done quite a few. Also Staraero has done many, if my feable memory serves me right.

I had BIRD_E here on Runryder made a mount for me that looks just like the one K&B has shown in his pics. He did a great job making it. The only real mod to the frame was cutting out part of the fan shroud between the front legs and carving out some of landing gear in the front. I'd done this mod about a month ago and had great initial success. Then unfortunately I broke a connecting rod and just now am ready to give it another go. I'll be doing some testing today.

What I've seen so far is awesome. Here is Colorado, with the altitue engine power is way down. With the 60, power is unlimited, looking more like the videos I've seen of the guys at sea level.

I'm also going to try some longer blades. Either 660 or 680's. Should be awsome. New blade grips are needed to fit larger blades and a stretched boom as well. I'm running Kyle's grips (SEE HERE) to fit the bigger blades.

I'll let you know how the longer blades work out.

Ryan

Has anyone flown the raptor 60 size, it doesn't seem to be a very popular heli. It seem that everyone is flying the 50 or 90. Does anyone know why?

Simple Jason. Power to weight ratio. The 30's and 60's don't have as much power as the 50's and 90's. Don't be fooled though, the 60's still have good power for a lot of 3D flight. Just takes more collective management.

Well I would probably put my OS 70 in it. Is this going to be enough power for all the 3D I would want to do with the 60 size raptor. Im trying to avoid having to buy a new engine. Also is the 60 size raptor already set up for 3D or am I going to have to do some upgrading?

You will probably like the Raptor 60/OS 70 combo. Get a set of carbon blades and lighter paddles and have at it. My R60 with an OS60 SX-H has good power and is a lot of fun to fly.

Edit - I just noticed that OnlyRaptors.com has a deal for an R60 kit with TT carbon blades for $520. Not bad for a 60 size heli with good blades!

I think that I will go with the 60 size raptor. Is there any upgrades that I need to do to make it fly 3D.

You will probably want some carbon blades and lighter paddles. OnlyRaptors.com and Heliproz have combo packages that include carbon main blades.

If I do put a 70 in the raptor 50, will it still be possible to use lite blades. Would it be better to put a set of heavier blades on so to engine has the right amount of load on it? Any feed back. Thanks.

Jason, you probably wouldn't notice any changes, with respect to blade weights, with that set-up.

Put longer blades and a stretched boom on the R50 with a 70 in it. I tried some 680s on mine this weekend and it was pretty awesome. One of the guys here, Kyle, is going to be making some 60 sized mounts (same size for the 70). He does some top notch CNC work. I'll find his runryder name and you can PM him. Check out the blade grips Kyle made in my gallery.

I made my mount and The v1 clutch with a good lining holds better than the v2. You can drill out the stock fan and retap it for the motor you want to use.

I used a Vigor boom cut down and a belt from stock drive products. One of the local guys made the blade grips. I did cut my crankshaft to get the engine to fit as far up as possible, but I only needed to about 2mm off.

Yea, Korzry is flyin Kyle's 20mm stretched grips with the 680 blades and OS61 in his R50 and it is awesome. I got a chance to fly her Newyear's day and it rocks! We weighed it in at 8lbs 5ozs. I think I am going to put a 70 in one.

8.5 pound 90 birds Rock!
