what type of flying and budget? for entry level setup, full align combo seems like a good deal, with futaba 240 gyro and align motor.

My guess is that OAT is asking about the engine, ESC, battery, and pinion setup in the Trex. From this particular forum, it appears that the Trex hasn't been out long enough for people to figure out what the "best" (or at least most useful) motor, gearing, and power supply are. The Shogun has been around long enough for most of us to figure out what it takes to make it go, and go well.

I'm still assimilating the information on the Shogun, and am waiting for some decent info on the Trex before taking the plunge into small electric helis.

right now, the consensus high performance setup for 3S lipo seems to be

Trex 450X with/without XL kit
futaba 401 gyro or jr 500T gyro
berg 6 channel receiver
3 HS-56 servo and 1 HS-50 servo
mega 16/15/3 with 13 pinion and CC25/35 esc
TP2100, 3S 2nd generation lipo.
Lehner motor seems to be better, but cost more. warp 4, 3 turn motor is cheaper, but it is 3mm shaft.

if you go to 4S setup, you would need to go to 16/15/4 with same pinion and 4S1500 lipo and ubec.

some people have tried lightweight setup with hacker b20L18 or similiar motor. high temp seems to be an issue. (too much load for motor size) Align 400S2800 motor is cheap performance motor for light weight setup. not max performance though. Align 400L2500 may be another option.

askman,
For 3S setup, how much would cost me? And where is a good place to purchase it?

Thanks,
Oat

the price is

165 for base kit. and 30 for XL kit
motor is 85, esc is 65 or so (align motor is 40 and esc is 50)
gy 240 is 100-110, 401 is 140.
TP2100 3s pack is about 75
4 servo is 110 or so
receiver is 70

the usual suspect for ventors. fxaeromodels.com, modefosheli.com, grandrc.com, helihobby.com, flyinghobby.com,etc... many to choose from. some will make you a good combo deal.
