If I'm not mistaken the lower mainshaft bearing can be adjusted up and down to remove up/down play in the main shaft.

How usefull

Under the top bearing is a collar with 4 cap screws in it, undo the screws, pull up the shaft and retighten. Don't forget to put locktite on the screws when you put them back.

Isn't the collar location fixed on the shaft?
I think you have to move up the lower bearing.

oops, oh yes, forgot it actually screwed into the shaft For some reason thought it was like the 50 for a sec there

Check the bearing block is installed the right way up, adjust the bottom block if you can and if that doesn't take out the play then you will have to shim it.

Ah the joys af buying ARF's...

You're correct Tim. Must be too early for DM! Tohot, you can also install the bearing blocks wrong side up, causing the same issues.

Tell me about it, no idea why I forgot that, the amount of times I've had to remove the main shaft to free the one way bearing

If they forgot that little thing, I'd be tempted to go right through and check everything else. Making sure that all the bolts are nice and tight. Locktite where needed etc.....

I agree completely with DM. An ARF is simply a 3D rendition of the manual, as far as I'm concerned. It just shows you what it's going to look like, once you tear it all down, and check everything. To me, an ARF is something that comes already built by the factory, or by the person you bought a used heli from. Either one I would completely disassemble and do my own thing.
