Setting Up Rummy

INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY
Media: A GI confronts Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld in Iraq — a story that somehow made major newspapers' front pages. Only problem: It was staged.
The GI was reportedly irate over a lack of adequate armor for military Humvees. His question played well to the media's basic bias, showing a clueless Rumsfeld left stammering for an answer and finally deferring to a three-star general to respond.
The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times, among others, gave it front-page play. TV networks and National Public Radio gave it prominent airtime. Quite a coup for a lone questioning GI.
Except, as it turns out, the question wasn't authentic. It was planted by Chattanooga Times Free Press reporter Edward Lee Pitts, who is embedded with the 278th Regimental Combat Team. In a memo to his paper — and posted by the Drudge Report — he admits to working "on questions to ask Rumsfeld" with the GIs.

What was portrayed as soldiers' genuine anger was, in fact, a staged media event.
Indeed, only one "tough question" was posed to Rumsfeld — Pitts'. Others, respectfully, asked about armor. But it wasn't the "grilling" newspapers reported. And the questions were asked only because Rumsfeld was man enough to tell the assembled GIs to do so.
Why make such a big deal about a question posed to Rumsfeld during a "rally the troops" talk in Iraq?
Because the media turned it into one, making it seem like Rumsfeld and his Pentagon underlings have ignored the well-being and safety of America's service men and women in Iraq. They haven't.
It's worth noting that the same day the supposed confrontation took place, the New England Journal of Medicine released a study of the lethality of various wars.
As you can see from the accompanying table, survival rates from wounds received in Iraq are far better than any other war in history.
Maybe not a front-page story — but a pretty good story, nonetheless. And one that happened not by accident, but because military leaders, including Rumsfeld, made sure it happened.

Gee what a guy, I wish we lived in a country where you can't ask questions.

I guess you thing they held up a sign that said everyone clap and all the stupid G.I. started clapping. Your a fool if you think that was staged.

Yea and we only hear about the deaths not the 10,000 wounded, I guess the liberal media has not thought of playing that up.
The companies that make the armor have said that they can make 20% more than they are making but the army has not asked them to do so. I bet they will now, that soldier is a hero not a misled patsy like you make him sound. He put his ass on the line saying that to Rumsfeld and all the troops there applauded. I'd like to know how some guy from a nothing paper staged that.
Your a fool! but nice try.

This lack of armor thing is the biggest bunch of BS.

I'm not saying they couldn't have more but, No army has EVER been better equipped in the history of the world. Simple fact is that in any war you're always going to wish for more than you have because lives are at stake.

Does Rummy use a JR or Futaba Xmitter? What's his Gyro of choice?

You should have titled it "Setting up RunRyder" because that's what your doing.

These posts start problems here. You have every right to be a pain in the ass troll if you like but do you really need to be?

No doubt they have good equipment, but if our guys can benefit from more armor, then make it and get it over there. This is not the first time they asked for more. Not sure how long is reasonable that the process should take, but it does seem like they are dragging feet on that.

Thats so true, the real problem is lack of planning and leadership that can deal with reality.
I don't know why they are bitching if they get their limbs blown off they have the best chance of survival then ever. When they come back I'm sure they will get a job from one of the fine RR members who will love to see the joy in thier face when they get their 1st pay check. Oh wait I should not think that far a head being a simple minded person.

Hey DH, my point is this is "OFF TOPICS" and I wanted to show once again, how the media is not reporting the news but rather "Hollywoodizing" it to gain ratings and personal recognition.

Yep still,Jerry "Hollywoodizing"
Next we'll see MM sayin how all of the armor has been diverted to haliburton.

Seen this stupid thing on every station.
Strange you dont see the other view point at the same time.

Probally not staged but it is a liberals wet dream.

The enemy evolves and so do we ,get a clue.

The real story is that troops being killed and wounded wasn't enough NO it took embarrassing the Prince of Darkness to not only get the attention of the so called liberal media but to get the scum bags in Washington to do the right thing.

Sealerman,
Have you seen combat????? You think you can run the military better??? It seems like the government is wrong and you are right. We have military strategist and experts. The experts' job is not to be right all the time, but to be wrong in more complex things.

Has Rummy or GWB or Dick? Even if I had the brass doesn't listen to the grunts. You guys even think that soldier that asked Rumsfeld the question is to stupid to come up with that question himself and that it was planted. The troops have been asking for more armor for 2 years and Rummy said that they can't produce it quick enough and that is B.S. The companies making the armor said they can make 20% more than they are doing and the Army brass haven't asked for it.
The experts' job is not to be right all the time, but to be wrong in more complex things.
What does that mean, I'd be happy if they were right once.
Big deal we wiped out their army, was that ever in doubt? The gov't knew they were not a threat.

I don't understand why this is such a problem.
A reporter suggested some one ask a simple question and he did. So what? Did he hold a gun to the guys head? Do our guys not really want more armor? Do they really prefer to be running around in a tin-can target? Do any of us really want him running around in a tin can target?

As Sealer pointed out quite correctly, our guys have asked for more armor for vehicles before. This issue has been going on for some time. You may recall in not to recent news that it has gotten to the point that some have refused missions because of the lack of armor.

Latest news: They are finnaly ordering armor.
That probably would not have happened had it not been for liberal media. I for one say Hoooray! for liberal media. About fricking time they got something right, but get it right they did.

What I said still stands. Go run for President since you can run the country better.

Also, someone will always complain. More armor, more tanks, more doheeki,, etc. etc...It will never end.... Next thing you know, the army will complain that they will need more exo-skeletons, more smart bullets.

How did this country survive without all the things that the army needed??????

Oh yeah,,, don't complain about tax hikes neither. Because everybody wants improvements, yet when you bill them, they will complain or say, I did not vote for that guy.

Elected officials run the country, let them be!!!!!! You don't like it, vote for the other guy next time,,,,,,,but wait, my candidate did not win so I'll just complain and complain because I can't accept the truth that I lost.

But hey,,, you are free to do whatever you want.

To my fallen comrades, Rest in Peace, and Semper Fidelis.

If the alies had decided what they had was good enough, we would be speaking German.

Its simple sheets of glass, plastic and metal, they are not asking for much, but even if they were asking a lot, they deserve it, and if it helps them finish the job it is a very wise investment.

Sorry to spoil you fun Sealer, you fathead jackass! (hey that was kinda fun!)

If you remember the Prince of Darkness orginally wanted to go to Iraq with 75,000 troops and the Generals, you know the one who have seen combat said no way. The reason were even having the problems we are now is because the Prince of Darkness would not authorise more troops to secure Iraq after "Major Combat Ops" were completed. He thought as long as the Oil related sh*t is covered who gives a rats ass about anything less.
