I think I am ready for my first high quality heli and I want to give the Fury a try. The question is, should I get the Extreme or step up to the Tempest? The difference in price is not really an issue. 3D is my intent for this heli so I would probably get the Tempest with 3D head. What advantages will the Tempest offer over the Extreme besides the carbon frames? What gear ratio do I need for either if I go with YS91?

The Tempest 3D doesn't come with carbon frames. Only the Tempest FAI comes with carbon frames. I would suggest the Fury Extreme and then buying a set of CarbonXtreme Tempest frames for the Extreme mechanics. That is if you want the Tempest frame geometry?

I would get the 8.18 if your going to use the YS91 with a MPII. If your going to use a Hatori SB-16 then I would go with the 8.45 gear rato.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Sorry, I meant to say Tempest FAI with 3D head.

Is there a reason for not wanting it?

No, there is nothing wrong with wanting it, just thought I'd say that there was an Extreme Tempest frame set made by CarbonXtreme that fit the Fury Extreme. I just assumed you wanted to get a Tempest 3D because it had carbon frames. I didn't know you wanted the Tempest FAI with a 3D head.

Aren't there more advantages going with Tempest since it's a newer design besides the carbon frames?

Go with the Extreme less part count and when you doink it in the ground and break the head it doesnt cost 300 plus dollars just for the head like the tempest

If I will have $$$ to get next heli I will do Tempest with Extreme head- that what I have now and I love it. If you need POWER POWER go with OS not pumped but with carb mod, and 8:18 plus MPII and you will rock the sky.

If you like YS, MPII or SB-16 go with 8:36 runs much better than 8:45.

And no that open box will cost you $150 on top your heli.

But that is only me.

If cost is no object and crash cost is no issue either, which one would be the choice, Tempest FAI w/3D head or Extreme and why?

Get both Then you can try them both for your next final decison.

Geez, why didn't I think of that? I decided to get the Tempest FAI/3D head and 8.36 gearing (as per Dino's suggestion).

Talked to MA tech about 2 weeks ago, he said that open tail gear box will not come with Tempest or Extreme. If it does, #@%^&. I just got my Extreme not that long ago.
