Putting It Together

I picked mine up yesterday and shoved it in the closet until I finished my 2 Planks...
However, it snuck out of the closet and onto my work desk!
I had to make a trip to MA this morning to change out the main gear. It needed to be a 93 tooth instead of the 90 toooth that was in the kit (7.15 gear ratio). I'm putting together the Tempest head version with 700mm blades powered by the 231 engine (unmodified). I've been giving some feedback to the local rep on the instructions. These manuals are available on the MA website under the Spectra G product selection.
The frames are together, along with the gearing & cluch assembly. Tomorrow I'll start on the engine & finish up the mechs (I hope) by tomorrow nite. Electronics and maybe a startup could happen as soon as Saturday afternoon.
I will say that this head is nice looking as well as stout! It is also a bit longer (blade hole to blade hole) than the plastic-grip Extreme head, so my 700mm blades are effectively longer with this setup.
I'm lik'in this kit! Its definetely beefier than the Expert 60 and is pretty much flex-free....

Snuck out of the closet hey Is the gear a mistake in all the kits shipped or just an error in yours ?

I paid $1165.99 plus tax for mine (Tempest Head), plus throw in the $100 on main blades. I already had the engine & Hatori muffler and don't want to add those in as I'll freak out! Actually, its probably not as bad as my Vario Benzin was, or certainly any of my scalers!
As I understand it, the gear is a common problem on the first kits that had gone out the door before yesterday morning. Tim stepped right up to this and is sending the replacement gear (93t). It seems everything would go together fine, except the main gear would not quite reach the drive gear with the 90-tooth! That would sigificantly impact rotor speed
I'm still finding little things with the instructions - maybe just me, but I'm passing them on to Carey.

In my e-mail this morning,

"Hi Jason,

Mike is first on our (Rick's) list. We have enough coming for everyone that placed an order.

I don't know why Rena would have said that. Mike put his order before Rena even knew there was a Spectra. He put his order in before they invented gasoline! Heck, he put his order in before Al Gore invented the internet!

Nice one Mike!

We will see, I got in on it pretty early... granted, AFTER gasoline was invented. I can't wait!

I am first on MTA's list. Rosy said it would be in my hands before Christmas. I went with the Extreme Head, but she was willing to pull a Tempest Head out of a kit if I wanted it that way. HeliProz said they did not have any and all that were coming with the Tempest Head are spoken for. I received my Pro Heli G-260 from Bruce Hanson with the tuned pipe. Really looks like a hot set-up and I even beat his recent price increase.
