<<"Dimebag"? Doesn't seem like he'll be missed.>>
As I said before. I was not a big fan (Generation gap). But I am a fellow musician and have seen his face on many guitar mags. Along with alot of other great guitarist. And I am sure he will be remebered in the guitarist world for what he has achieved! And they will remember him as a great player. Not as a refference to his aka name.. LOL.. Just look at the cover of guitar magazines next month.. You dont have to touch it or anything. But that guy on the cover will be Derrel Abbot.

BTW: Not all metal musicians do drugs, do wifes, do evil..lol

My last post on this topic = RIP

Vinnie is O.K. guys. We don't need to loose a great drummer also.

Vinnie did get shot, but is going to be O.K.

When you say, as well as his brother Vinnie, it sounds like you are saying he was killed too. Not true is it?

At least three band members were shot as well as several audience members. Two in the band and three in the audience died from their injuries. It doesn't appear to be revenge to me. Why would anyone start shooting into the crowd if they had a problem with someone in the band? Sounds to me like a looney upset fan that wanted attention.
I don't think the guy shot him for the hell of it.
Well I do.
He had to have a reason.
Did John Lennon's murderer have a reason to kill him? Did Selena's murderer have a reason to kill her?

Brian,

I think they are saying other band member was a manager or rodie.

"Anyhow, most of those metal bands, or any band for that matter, are usually into some sort of illegal activity."

That has to be one of the most ignorant statements I have ever heard.

Agreed. And I find it odd that so many have decided that this is all because of the "type of lifestyle" that people choose if they listen to or like/play metal music. So what type of music is safe to listen to/play for a good living? One that will keep us all safe with fuzzy bunnies, and cute little puppy images? Please do tell! Because last I heard tatoos didn't make you a criminal, nor eligable for blattant murder. Nor did long hair and loud screaming music. But perhaps to some it does. To them I say you are MORONS! Oh, and I have very short hair, and NO tatoos! SO I guess I am at leat 3/4 safe!

I can not believe some idiot redneck could say something like this. Wait Yes I can. I am from Texas, 40 years old still very much like Punk music and have a very white collar job. What does that make me?

RIP - Dimebag.

Smillies do NOT make you right. Saying what you and others have been saying makes it sound like it is OK to kill, or remove these people from society because after all "I am sorry an innocent man died by the name dimebag LOL in a concert....I dont care because I know you assume the risks of the lifestyle you live by. A good picture tells you alot about a person with 100's of tattoos and whatever else he had going in his life....I bet you guys liked his songs about booze, drugs, and women. That sounds like a classic lifetstyle that will shorten your lifespan." Your words! And that is a justification for the act. Say your sorry if you want, but as you said, you dont care.

well i guess i fit that profile as well . i'm 47 yrs old, used to have hair to my shoulders and maybe farther i don't really remember. but i still like good metal music and still listen to classic rock and can play most of both, there is a certain enjoyment being able to play music and entertaining the people. (all fellow musicians out here will know what i mean!)

hell i guess i should just sell everything and stay home and listen to the pbs radio staions and rush limbaugh(GAG!)
there are a lot of good metal rockers that has never ever touched drugs or drinks. i can't say i am one of them but i never have done drugs during a set or during breaks either but i have had my fair share of beer.
does anyone remember the Columbine school shootings? the media reported the the assaillints were provoked after listening to a rammstein song; funny if they could understand german then maybe but then maybe not! i bought the mentioned cd and i find it ok and tame mostly like industrial metal music not too far from a disco type beat.
i was 45 when i saw them in concert,i even got caught up in the pit and i had a blast!
well anyway to my point. i am going to do what i love and enjoy every moment of my life. i have never felt threatened at any concert in my lifetime, hell like john lennon all i need to do is walk out my front door and catch a bullet from a drive by intended for someone else and i don't have any enemies, in the music world or real life! ken

So I guess if you listen to Boy George you are gay, and likely to die from AIDS. And that is OK with you. Right? Or if you listen to rap you are likely a gang banger, and should be killed in the streets by a gang member. Right? Or if you listen to the classic rock you are likely a pot head, and should be in prison. Right? So what type of music is OK to listen to and play for millions of dollars a year to you Hitler? I want to know. Because you seem to have all of the answers to how to make the worlds decay stop. I am dying to hear you solution to our music delima, and how it will save the world!

Your original statement said "Anyhow, most of those metal bands, or any band for that matter, are usually into some sort of illegal activity"..therefore the type of music played doesnt matter..your statement suggests all bands (not just metal) are full of illegal activity.

Have you ever played in a band?

Ive played guitar in bands for 17 years and my name also happens to be Darrell and guess what, no one in any of my bands has ever done any drugs or partaken in illegal activity before, during or after one of our shows.

Your statement made a very rash generalization. Are there illegal activities in bands? Absolutely. But dont generalize all bands that way... it's wrong.

Now lets face reality here....
There was a time in my life when I used to race the wheels off of my CBR 600F3 at the local race track. I assumed the risks rather it was stupid or trying to be a bas ass. If I crashed and killed myself...my PROBLEM! This is my point when you make decisions of what lifestyle you want and where you go...YOU ASSUME THE RISKS.
Ok, you speeding along on the ragged edge, endangering your own life (no judgement, if I had the cash I'd do the same thing) is not at all related to a guy getting up on stage playing music that people love. You put yourself in that situation full well knowing that one oil spill could end your life. It's not a common occurance to have people gunned down at concert, this was a freak sort of thing, so I dont' think it's quite fair to say he should have known that he could be gunned down at any moment, he assumed the risks walking in the door. Come on, it's music, not like he was saying "kill whitey" to a KKK meeting or something. Not that that would justify his death, but it would a little more sense why things got out of control.
I am sorry an innocent man died by the name dimebag LOL in a concert....I dont care because I know you assume the risks of the lifestyle you live by. A good picture tells you alot about a person with 100's of tattoos and whatever else he had going in his life....I bet you guys liked his songs about booze, drugs, and women. You've never had a nickname that didn't fit you? My friends nicknamed me dumba$$ for while cause of the stuff I did when I was at college with them. Doesn't mean I didn't outperform all of them consistently in every single class we took together. It's just a stupid nickname.

Tattoos do not equal a bad lifestyle. I could name dozens of people I know with tattoos that wouldn't harm a fly. The lead singer of Drowning Pool died, and everybody did the same thing you're doing. Oh, he had tattoos, he was in a metal band, he must have overdosed. No, he had a bad heart was all, didn't even have alcohol in his system as I recall. Face it man, you're just stereotyping people by what they look like.

The whole point was, a concert for the most part is just like other areas of society. Look at sporting events, people go nuts for a team they have no connection with. They yell, curse, scream, and riot at/with people who have no valid connection to the other team. Still you don't avoid sporting events cause you're fearful of being shot. Why should a concert be any different?

What did he do that was so wrong? How did he contribute to the decay of moral in our society? He didn't even write the lyrics to those songs, he just played the guitar extremely well. I think the biggest reason for decay is people not taking on the responsibility they should. Oh it wasn't my fault, I listened to his lyrics and it made me want to kill. Please, that's such a lame scapegoat. I hate when parents blame TV or videogame for their kid going crazy, and they neglect to mention they never sat down and talked with Johnny, just set in front of the babysitter (TV).

I mean really, if you blame him as part of the decay of morality in society, you must not like TV, movies, or a whole lot of the music out there today.

I live about 2 miles from the site where the club was (been to the club many times, luckily not the nite it burned down)

Basically the owners of the club and GW's tour manager are up on tons of charges. It's now in the hands of the courts..who knows how long it will take before it has been resolved, if ever.

Worst part is the town Fire Inspector who missed the fact that the club had illegal packing foam on the walls as sound supression hasnt been charged with a thing.
