I don't know how many metal heads surf RR but I thought I'd post this anyway.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A gunman charged onstage at a packed nightclub and opened fire on the band and the crowd, killing top heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three other people before a police officer shot him to death, authorities and witnesses said.

Abbott, 38, one of metal's top guitarists, and his brother, Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, were original members of Grammy-nominated thrash rock pioneers Pantera, one of the most popular metal bands of the early 1990s.

Saddest day since we lost Steevie Ray Vaughan.

I have seen Pantera three times in concert and they are one of my favorite bands! Dimebag Darrell will be missed for sure!

I live in Cincinnati which is about 1 1/2 hour drive from Columbus and I heard of this last night before going to bed. I am wondering if this crazy SOB had a problem with Pantera breaking up?

Rest in peace Darrell!

This sucks something fearce! I to have seen them (Pantera) live three times, and this simply bites. Friggin nut bags! But I find myself wondering how the heck this wacko got into the club with a gun. Pretty shotty security if you ask me. And a loss of a killer guitarist was the result of that. Sad day for sure.

A man was shot and killed!! Should not matter where he was! It is wrong! John Lennon was shot at the front door to his own home. Should he have never went outside? No excuse for this no matter if he was in crackville at 2am or at home in his bed.. I for one refuse to hide at home in my own little world to feel safe..No way to live!!

It was a concert at a club. He was working, just doing his job.

Sure there are good clubs and bad clubs but he was a heavy metal dude, playing rock and roll at a heavy metal club. He wasn't combing the streets looking for drugs, He wasn't in the crow drinking and picking fights. He was working. People need jobs, he was good at his job and wanted to work. Heavy metal acts play in heavy metal bars.

He did nothing wrong and got killed for his troubles, so did others. Its a tragedy any way you look at it. He didn't deserve this.

This club existed as a heavy metal club since 1974 with no history to suggest this would happen, it was an isolated incident caused by a wacko.

I certianly don't think that people should have to loose their lives just because they where in a club some deem "rough"

Kudos to the Officer for ending the situation... no telling how much worse the outcome would have been.

"no telling how much worse the outcome would have been."

Sure there is, count the bullets left in the gun, you can be sure he would have kept shooting is he wasn't put down.

The officer did what he needed to do. It's sad he was forced to do it but he had no choice.

That is an old name that has stuck to him for as long as I can remember. Likely picked up when he was much younger. No indecation to him being missed. Of course he will. In the metal commuinty he was tops in his field. And WILL be missed!

Yea, one of the best guitarists in metal, and a member of one the best metal bands (Pantera) won't be missed.
I dont feel sorry for people that head to clubs in rough areas and nightclubs ...just asking for trouble with all that mixed culture and booze
Why wouldn't you feel sorry for someone that got gunned down for nothing? Some dude charges on stage and shoots him, without provocation, and you don't feel bad for him? Damn, that's kinda messed up don't you think?

The next time you're in a "rough area" with "mixed cultures," and get gunned down, dont' you want someone to be upset?

So did he have to have a reason for firing into the crowd as well? Or for holding a hostage?

I find it AMAZING that ANYONE would come on here a defend a WACKO that has just killed 4 people for WHATEVER reason. The guy was so far gone that it took a cop killing him to stop him. People kill people for no apparent reason ALL the time. Perhaps this guy wanted to commit suicide, but wanted to not only take a few people with him, but wanted to be well remembered for doing it. Dude you need to take a minuite and think about what it is you are saying. This guy killed innocent people for whatever reason. But he is still a wacko, and this was un-called for any way you slice it. Stop being a MORON!

I want to make another statement though. I resent the fact that you say that everyone involved in metal music is usually involved in illegal activity. You are so full of it I bet you float. I am a musician, and have been since I was 16. I am now 31, and have a good job. I am not involved in illegal activity, and can't beleive that is the stigma you chose to stick on the art. Oh, and guess what. I am a metal guitarist. I do not use drugs, and cant beleive you think that is any kind of justification to think it is likely ok that this nut killed these people. You sir need help. This is profileing, and porfileing is wrong! What type of music do you listen to? And if I don't like it, can I say that all who listen to that stuff are gay, or are gang bangers, or drug users? And if I do, and I am wrong, will it make you mad, or offend you? I hope so!
