Hi,
I have a problem hoding the tail of my Maxi-Joker stady.
My set up is:
Maxi-Joker (straight tail)
actro 24-5 motor
shultz 32.55k (in governor mode)
GY401 gyro with 9254 tail servo
800mm mains and 130mm tail blads
I run my gy401 in HH mode (avcs mode), no metter what gain I try (40% to 100%) the tail will drift from side to side or hunt. It seams that the problem may come form the flactuation in motor power cosed by the shultz 32.55k controller (acting as governor) trying to keep the RPM constant. I had the same problem with the actronic controller. I tryed standart and expart governor modes and the problem stayed more or less the same.
The last option I can think about is to turn of the governor option and to use thrutle curves insted. And to see if the problem indid comes from the controller\governor or if it continues it must come from the gyro\tail set up.
Did any of you had the seme problem with the Maxi-Joker and if you had how did you solved it (if you solved it)?
Any info will be welcome thanks, Eran.

Have a nice day :)

I too had this problem on my Maxi.

Greg Pyros helped me and found the cause.

The ball link on the tail was too tight. Thus, it was sticking then the gyro would kick in fighting itself. Check yours. Hold the tail rod with two fingers and rotate it. It should be smooth with almost no friction. If so, pop off the link and use the proper tool to enlarge them to loosen them up.

It was a simple fix but it took me so much time to fuss with the gains with no luck. Until, Mr. Pyros came to the rescue.

Thanks Dakine,
It might well be the problem with my maxi. The movement of the rood is much harder (allot of friction) compare to my other helis (Freya and Caliber). I'm not sure where the friction come from it might well be from the ball links but it can allso be from other places. I notice this when I bult the Maxi but didn't thought it will cose this problem (I thought that the strong and fast 9254 can handle some friction ). Now I'll try to see if I can get read of the friction and hope it will solve the problem. I'll post here about any progress.
Thanks again Eran.

Have a nice day :)

Eran, I get much more consistent performance without running in Governor mode.

I just run 100% across the board for my throttle curve and it works really well.

Also I went to a bigger carbon pushrod and did away with the cheesy aluminum squeaky support. That thing drove me nuts.

You are right though, the joker tail actuation is no where near as smooth as other helis like my Ion
