I was just hovering my zoom 400 for a bit and then all of a sudden I felt a loss in power. I unplugged it and checked the kokam 1500 3s pack and the voltage reading read 8.82v!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARGH!!! What should I do? Is it still safe to try and charge it? Does it mean it's definitely damaged or is there a chance that all is still well??

If I were to charge it again, what charging rate should I use?

Please advise

Hmm....extremely interesting. After letting the pack cool for about half an hour, I checked the voltage again and it's now 9.3v. Does that mean it's safe?

I didn't know the voltage drops so much when the battery gets hot .

It's not that the battery voltage drops because the battery is hot, but the battery voltage recovers over time once the load is removed. You did go below the critical 3V per cell so exercise caution (as always!) when charging, but I would be quite hopeful that the battery will recover when charged.

Try not to make a habbit of it though

I would try charging it. What's the worst that could happen?... besides fire. Just do it in a safe place outdoors where you can mitigate the risk of fire. If it doesn't seem to puff up at all, you are probably ok.

I would give it a full charge then let it sit for an hour and observe for puffyness. Then discharge and recharge and observe again. If it is good after that, fly.

In another thread, a guy was just talking about losing the top floor off of his house due to charging lipos... so care is prudent.

Ok, I'm gonna try charging it again now at 1A. I'll be sure to be a lot more careful in the future.

Wish me luck.
