try this card...

ASUS ATI Radeon X700 PRO Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 128-Bit, DVI/VIVO, PCI-Express, Model "EAX700PRO/TVD/256" -RETAIL

The one card that is better is a Radeon X800 but will be between $500-$700.00 for pci-e architecture.

Go with the Radeon X700 pro pci-e

XTR requires an AGP graphics card, so if your "new PC" only has PCI slots then I think you're stuffed......

EDIT: Just seen you meant PCI-E slots.

The X700 is fine. The GeForce 6600 is good also. I have the 6610 (OEM version) and get 350 frames per second on a P4 3.4GHz with the highest panarama resolution at 1280x768.

That's with v-sync off obviously. I always run with it on though to stop the image from tearing, and then I get a contstant 60 fps with is the refresh rate my widescreen 17" TFT runs at. Looks dead smooth and very sharp.

No, sorry, it came with the PC I've just bought. It's PCI-E with 128Mb memory, running at 450MHz core speed I believe.

The 6610 is the OEM version, and apparently is slightly faster than the retail 6600 but not as quick as the 6600GT. It easily out performs the Radeon 9800, and I think it's comparable to the X700.

It runs Half Life 2 quite happily at 1280x768 with all the settings at maximum except for texture detail which is at medium. The only reason it won't run high texture detail is due to lack of memory, it goes jerky occasionally due to texture swapping. But that doesn't really make much difference to image quality, except when you do something silly like stand right up close to a wall.........
