What is the difference between using lead weights in paddles and using flybar weights?
Leads that go into paddles brings CG of that paddle forward at or near it's aerodynamic center. This is most commonly used on FAI machines.
If I decided to leave the lead weights out and just add flybar weights will it have the same effect?

Ok, so no one answered because you have answered this yourself really but here are some of my observations.

Probably no difference in using paddle weights or flybar weights providing the c of g of the paddle is not changing and of course it is easier to adjust feel with flybar weights.

The machine may be more prone to pitching up in fast forward flight due to the more rear ward centre of gravity if the weights are not on the centre pivot point of the paddle. It may also speed up response.

Thicker blunt edged paddles seem to me to be less pitchy in fast forward flight and a little less responsive than thin paddles of similar area. I prefer to use thick section paddles but of a reasonably light weight. If your paddles are thick you will probably not notice much difference in pitchy-ness if you remove weights which are forward of the flybar pivot point.

I have played with a few types of paddles and even made my own. They have all been flyable!

You will probably have to experiment to find what suits you sir.
