I'm new to helis and just bought a raptor 30 that came with a brand new ccm ICG-400 Gyro. Is it a good servo to learn with or should I dump it?

Thanks

It's a gyro, and will be just fine to learn with.

I started with this gyro.

It is easy to setup and took me through to entry level 3D, much beyond rolls, loops, stall turns you will want to upgrade. I would recommend keeping it for now. While you are learning it would be much better to lose this Gyro should a crash happen then a new expensive one.

So is the futaba s9254 a good servo to use with this gyro?

The 9254 is a great tail servo but is a little over kill with the CSM400. As it does not have a super servo mode, ie it does not have a high frame rate mode that make the digital servos so fast and accurate.

While you are learning to hover and simple circuits loops and rolls you can get by with a fast non-digital servo. Your battery will also last longer with a non-digital servo. I used the HiTec HS-525BB which worked fine for me. JR's new JRPS810G Tail servo would be a better choice as it is designed as a non-digital tail servo and is much faster then the HS-525BB and is much cheaper than the 9254.

HS-525BB 45.5oz-in X .017 sec @ 60 deg. street cost ~ $30.00 JRPS810G rated at 31oz-in X .010 sec @ 60 street cost ~$70.00

When you start 3D flying and you notice you have to help hold the tail while flying then it is time to buy a better gyro/servo combo and sell off your current combo to a newbe.

Why not just buy the better gyro/servo now? How much are you willing to pay out for replacement parts should a crash happen?

Rick.

I have had one of these on my Raptor 30 for some while now.

Only prob I had was the tail glitching in hover, I sent it to CSM they checked it out no fault found.

They said try & earth the boom, wich I did & it cured it.

Aparrently its static build up from the belt? I just ran a wire to the boom fom the eng mount.

I have heard its a common problem.

Other than that its fine.
