I am interested in using the GV-1 Governor on my soon to be built CH-46 VERTOL... However, I am using a Hi-Tec Eclipse 7 PCM Radio... Am I correct in understanding that I need at least an 8 channel radio to use this Governor. The manual doesn't explain the minimum operating requirements very well..

If I do need to plunk down hard earned $$$ for a new radio.... what are others using... I also want to have operating lighting, so if this would require yet more channels, I'd like to know that up front...

No... I can't afford a 14MZ!!!!!!

Thanks folks...

a 7 ch radio will work.

the GV1 requires either 0, 1 or 2 channels to
work. The more channels, the more features

Since you have only 1 spare channel, you'd use
the RPM Select so you would not have an
independent on/off control.

But you could have the GV1 set any of 3 differnt
speeds (including 'off') in any flight mode by
connecting the RPM lead to the channel and
having the channel follow the flight mode switch.

Thanks...not sure I can do what you said... Eclipse 7 uses Channel 7 for Heading Hold in Heli Mode... so not certain (from reading the manual) I can program channel 7 to follow the flight mode Normal, Idle up1, Idle up 2.....

I'm thinking I should just break down and get a Futaba 9CHP or 9Z ....

BTW... you can get a 14MZ for $2,199.00 at Tower Hobbies....oh boy!

Thanks.

The GV-1 works just fine with the Eclipse. I have that and a GY401 (both remote gain), and have no problems at all.

Run the Gyro remote setting (since you only need heading hold and non-heading hold) on channel 7 which is switch operated. Plug the RPM setting of the GV-1 into channel 5 which is normally the gyro gain. Now set the "gain" in the gyro function menu for each flight mode. For example, normal would be 0%, idle up 1 would be 50% and idle up 2 would be 100%. You'll see on the GV-1 screen that each flight mode now has a speed setting all of it's own. Use this setup with the stick command, and a normal set of curves. Now you have 3 speeds settings (mine are normal 1650, idle 1 1750, and idle 2 1900). The added bonus by doing the stick command setup is throttle hold will cut it down to idle without any problems.

And whoever said the Eclipse was limited? Oh, those with scaler add-ons that need more channels, that's who!

OK so you want to have lights and stuff too. Not sure if the vertol has a remote gain function for it's mixer gyro thing, if it does then you could run the GV-1 on just the throttle channel with the stick command, and a set speed. But if you want all the bells and whistles (i.e. speed functions, remote gain, lights, retracts, etc), it might be time to upgrade.

Get a 9CH if you want it, they look great, but the Eclipse will do what you need just fine. As long as you don't need remote mixture adjustment too.

magnetic one will work fine, although I think that a bad batch got out late summer (I went through 3 sensors over the span of zero gallons, the fourth sensor is workin like a champ since aug.)

if you need help with the settings, PM me and I will give you my GV1 settings and my eclipse settings as well as talk you through it.
