Noone do this!!!! I just got my new 3s3p lipo pack and I go out in my back yard start to spool up and Im thinking my head speed seemed high but I dont have a tach so i really dont know what it was but my VE hadnt left the ground and BAM!!! my 470 mm carbons go flying like arrows ..lucky they missed me and they didnt get a scratch ..But what caused this which like a duma$$ I hadnt thought of was the extra voltage which was 9.6 on my nimh was now 11.1 with my lipo and the difference was tons more head speed .So now i do reaserch and I get conflicting advice on what size pinion gear to use ..One guy says go from my 17 down to a 14 and one guy says go to a higher one. What do you guys think and also im told to change my throttle curve from 25-85-85-85-85 to 25-50-75-100 ,,again im lost..advice needed here too...Anyone ????? Thanks alot Pals mastic

Mastic,

I'm running 470's with a Hacker C40-8L and a 17t pinion w/ a 3s4p ThunderPower pack. My throttle curve is 0-25-95-95-100 in Normal and 95-95-95-95-95 in Idle Up 1. I've never "lost" a blade, even with the 18t pinion and a 100% setting.

The "extra voltage" didn't cause the blades to go. Something wasn't attached properly, ESPECIALLY if there was no damage to the blades. Was it just the blades that flew, or did you lose the grips as well?

I get approx. 1800-1900 rpms on the head with the 8L and 17t. Even if you are running the higher KV motor, it's not going to be that much faster than what I'm running and I've tossed mine around pretty good with no adverse affects.

As for the advice to change curves and pinion, the curve for throttle that you are using is fine as it allows the motor to be most efficoent. The 25-50-75-100 curve won't work worth a damn on a small electric...it's OK on a Nitro, but not on an e-heli. The pinion should be chosen to get you the headspeed you want (chosen based on the KV of the motor, heli's gearing and the voltage of the pack).

Not trying to bash you here, but if it were me, I'd take a LONG look at the entire head and see where things went wrong.

Good Luck...

Thanks Ralph for the reply ,..I guess i didnt say it was my spindle nut that stripped off but since you say your pinion is a 17t ..mine is too ,,and my throttle curve is good im really baffled... btw a guy at HeliProz told me to do the 25-50-75-100 T curve hmmmmm ... Also I was told by a guy to go down to a 14t pinion ..... Im so mixed up and all I did was change a battery ..anyway thanks again
