Re: Patent Issues

The item rtrickyjr refers to "patent infringement issues" needs to be clarified. While I think it has no bearing on the current thread, there is still the need to clear up what he meant since there is some fact behind it. The rest of his statement is true.

Another person (to be unnamed) was attempting to clone the American Made, A&Z Custom "Red Tray" in the Far East.

He has run into some patent issues as the original Patent holder and former manufacturer still has plans for the "red tray".

As far as it applies to us as modelers and users of the product, we are unaffected. The "Blue Tray" and the "Red Tray" both have thier separate patents. In the case of the "Blue Tray," his patent will be in effect shortly. Each are different models with different features and techniques of accomplishing a similar goal. Each are designed and manufactured by two different patent holding companies.

Happy Landings!

propellerhead ...

Are you saying that you have a manufacturer who is now making the 'red' tray?

Last time we talked, I understood you to say that you still had trays, and parts, but no manufacturer. When your supply of trays were gone, you couldn't replace them. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't want to steer anyone else in any direction with incorrect facts.

Thanks, Rick

No, I'm not saying I have a new manufacturer at all.
Glad you asked. I really want to be clear here.

Last time we talked, I had said the same as I said above...
"A person I know of is working on a clone of the red tray but ran into trouble with patent issues. He may try to buy the patent out."

This does not mean a manufacturer exists or will exist.
He simply was attempting to try it for himself.

Last I heard he was still getting frustrated with the whole process in general, and was wondering if the effort was worth it. For now, it seems, he's still pursuing it.

=================================================

My Red Tray Status:
(I don't want to get commercial here but...)
I'm still selling my remaining inventory of retail trays.
I'm still maintaining a spare parts pool to support the product for another year.
I'm now moving to selling the "Blue Tray" since they just became available 5 days ago.

Happy Holidays & Happy Landings!
