I don't think the goal was entirely to help the Iraqis. I beleive it was to help the world by keeping Sadam from geting his hands on nukes and other WMD's. Which is what it was all about in the begining. It has been spun into helping the Iraqis after the fact. And has been the basis of a lot of the critisizm about Bush and his way of dealing with Sadam since the whole thing began. Do I think he had what we are and were looking for? Yes I do. And the intel said he most likely did. So we did at the time what we had to do. If we did nothing, and he did indeed produce what we thought he might be trying to, the whine would be on a whole different level. And if we did nothing about it, knowing what intel said it did. We would be seen in a whole differnet light. One of a weak country not willing to stop him from doing what we set out to keep him from doing post desert storm. So it was kind of a double edged sword. We chose the path of a country that wouldn't set back and see what happened. And have drawn a lot of heat from it. But if he nuked someone as a result of us not doing anything with what we knew, or thought we knew, I bet that heat would have been quite a bit higher. As for your ONE example of a country comming to our aid, you yourself point out that they had to be talked into it. And that was during the founding of this country. When has anyone helped us in the past 75 years? Or more? How many other nations stepped up to help clean up after 9-11? And how many countrys are going to help pay to rebuild the buildings? I am betting NONE! But rest assured that if something like this happens elsewhere, we will be there Johnny on the spot. And what will we get for it? More hatred. Go figure!
