I'm running an internal tv tuner card and using the computer as a DVR. The question is...Is it possible to run my computer monitor at 1024x768 while running my tv out at a resolution at 800x600.

I'm using an Nvidia FX series card with the nview software and running in clone mode. Unfortunately to have my TV display work I have to run in 800x600 on my desktop which then looks like s**t.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to...However, since you card is dedicating most of it's processing ability to the TV Tuner part of it, this means that the rest of your visual display will take a hit. If your options in the Video Dual Monitor configurations will not allow what you are trying to accomplish, then I would say it is safe to say that your card is not capable of doing so and what you have now is what you get.

I never understood graphics cards with TV Tuners in them.. Why not just put a TV in the same room so that you don't have to cut your computer's performance?

I don't think it's a graphics card with tuner on. If you are running in clone mode then you can't have different resolutions on each display. What I do is use the multimonitor setup so that you have 2 seperate displays. The tv card will probably only display on the primary display which you can change in display settings. You will find that screen 1 will be your monitor and screen 2 will be your tv, if you right click on screen 2 and select make primary all your icons and tool bars will shift over to the tv. Just drag them to you monitor, open your tv software and bobs your uncle

That's what I do anyway but if you need to run in clone mode then your stuffed. I did find that my tv will run 1024X768 but it looks weird, not really designed for it.

Drunkmonk,

I think you may be on to something

I hadn't been able to use dualmode as I would get my wallpaper on the TV but none of the icons or media software would display.

By following what you suggested I can now display my icons but the opening software still comes up on my monitor (secondary display)?

Dual mode seems to operate as a horz. 2 monitor system. Is there a way to have the media center open on the TV (right) and icons and task bar on the monitor (left).

P.S. The reason I can't run higher than 800x600 resolution on my TV is the screen is too small for the display. i.e. half of the displayed images are cut off. Is there a way to correct that issue? If so, then I could run in clone mode without any proplem.

Thanks for the help.

I found with mine that you can open the media player and it would default to the monitor (now being the secondary display) but if you drag it to the tv and close it, when you re-open it, it should remember where it was and open on the tv. You can also drag all the icons and toolbars on to the monitor and that should be that
