Saw the end of the Martinsville race, there was no victory celebration out of respect for what happened. A sad day. My thoughts are with their families.

Who all was killed? I can't find anything on it. Was just curious. Sad day for sure.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - A Hendrick Motorsports plane crashed Sunday on its way to a NASCAR race, killing all 10 people aboard, including the son, brother and two nieces of the owner of one of auto racing's most successful organizations.

The Beech 200 took off from Concord, N.C., and crashed in the Bull Mountain area seven miles from Martinsville's Blue Ridge Regional Airport about 12:30 p.m., said Arlene Murray, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The dead included the four relatives of Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, said Harry Litten, a spokesman for Moody Funeral Service, where the bodies were being taken. He said state police gave him a list of the people aboard the plane.

It was overcast when the plane went down, but the cause of the crash was not immediately known. NTSB spokesman Keith Holloway said investigators were on their way to the site, which was in rough terrain, and would begin their investigation Monday.
Citing the state police list, Litten said the people aboard the plane were:

Ricky Hendrick, Rick Hendrick's 24-year-old son and a retired NASCAR driver; John Hendrick, Rick Hendrick's brother and president of the organization; Kimberly and Jennifer Hendrick, John Hendrick's 22-year-old twin daughters; Joe Jackson, an executive with DuPont, sponsor of Gordon's car; Jeff Turner, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports; Randy Dorton, the team's chief engine builder; Scott Lathram, a pilot for NASCAR driver Tony Stewart; and pilots Dick Tracy and Liz Morrison.

Its a sad day for all Nascar fans apparently weather played a factor according to the TV but nothing official has been said

Ricky Hendrick was owner of the number 5 Busch car and the number 25 Cup car he was at least a partial ownership John was the president of the company and had ran the company a few years back when rick was home with cancer

Randy dortons Engines we envied by all as shown by the number of hendrick engines in rival teams

It truly is a sad day and a tremendous loss for the entire hendrick organization please pray for them tonight whether a fan or not

Very sad. This is called a CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) accident and, while preventable, they do happen.

Yeah

Really odd to read the NTSB prelim.
Both those pilots should have caught this IMO. Low ceiling (even for an ILS approach) should have had the Pilot not at the controls watching the instruments and calling out numbers till DH. CRM at its worst here I think.
I wonder if it was a case of "Get-there-itis" coupled with a complancency issue due to the recency of experience with the aircraft.
No black boxes so it will be a speculation issue from now on.
Guarantee the final will say PIC error all the way though.
