Greetings,

This is the first winter season that I have even thought of flying in. Now that it is Fall and getting colder I am thinking about how fast my hands are gettig cold. I have seen the "Pilot Gloves" that Vario sells and I have seen the thermal boxes that cover the Tx and hands. However I am interested in how the heli will react in the colder weather.

What kind of changes will I need to make, if any?
Does the cold weather effect the gyro?
Plastic gets brittle when cold, what possibilites are there for breakage?
What is the lowest temp I can safly take the heli out in?

Any other advice would be good too.

BTW, I am flying a Raptor 60 with an OS engine and a GY401 gyro.
I am soon going to be getting my Vario Benzin. How well does it fly in the Cold of winter.

.
We've flown here with an air temp of -15F, but not for long (5 min.). The nitro engines have trouble below 40 degrees for starting, plus we run high nitro in helis and planks in the winter to keep them running. We also don't keep anything on the flight line to get cold-soaked. In a pickup bed, or at home on the back porch. It's fun, but we don't fly for hours like the summer season.

Flying helis since gyros had springs.
