Yesterday I noticed a metalic "tinkling" noise coming from the tail boom of my Predator Gasser when it was at idle and spooling up coming from the tail boom area.

Being it was a new noise I decided to dissassemble and check it out. I found the plactic with the rubber O rings had slid off of one of the carrier bearings on the torque tube allowing that bearing to rattle around on the inside of the tail boom. Surprised me I didn't notice it in radio performance.

Hey Steve, I had that happen once on a Falcon 50 I had . It had two carrier bearings on the torque tube. They were not installed in same direction on the bearings. When I installed them into boom I think the one that was backwards slid off the bearing somewhat on my installation of torque tube thus allowing the plastic carrier to work its way off the bearing. It might not hurt to put a little Zap on the outer edge of bearing., when putting plastic carrier back on. RonC

Ron,

Yes, I tried to glue the bearings to the plastic carrier....we'll see. Mine were both installed the same direction, so it wasn't that issue. Don't know what caused it to move.

Jim,

Don't pay any attention to THOSE sounds...I never do!

lube

Steve, what do you lube them with when you put them together.
I was using wd40 and found that to be a problem. I am now using alittle dish soap and they dont move. Hell you cant get them out without splitting the boom open.

I have been using vaseline on the O rings to slide the assembly into the boom.

Don't laugh... I use good 'ol saliva. Works great and once it dries they don't move like Rodney says about dish soap.

I think that may be a little extreem. The rubber O rings should be able to drift with the torque tube, but the bearings should not come out of the plastic carriers.

John,

Be a lttle careful listening to James, sometimes he has a little speech impediment, especially late in the evening after some pop with foam on top, and his H's may sound like P's.
