Hi All,

Sorry but,,,

Thats better!, just had maiden flight with the new zoom and I like it.

It was really smooth, no surprises, just a little out of track in the blades.

My setup is himax 2025-4200 w 8 th pinion, cc25 esc, futaba 3108's all round and a micro sl560 up front.

used 1/4 inch balsa stock to help the tiny 3108s fit in, very light all up ready to fly is 480grams.

fresh charged the 1250 kokam pack, and with 50% initial throttle, got 13 minutes before the soft cut out got me.

Just cant believe how smooth and stable it was. not even sweaty palms

What a world of difference from the hornet 1 I had a while back.

A couple of mods before flight, extra screws in the swash, low profile skids fitted (were in the kit free) ball links for the pitch lever and a carbon shaft for the tail rotor, which let me remove the slop from the grips. oh and glue that bloody pin in the tail slider

Only thing which was a bit scary was the spool up, which ended up at about 65% high gov mode, thought the thing was gonna explode cos I am used to the raptor 50 headspeed and the noise just sounded like it was way too fast.

Thanks to all of you who have given up your thoughts and experience with this and other helis, which made this just that little bit easier.

Might have to post some pics of this setup, for others to see, let me know of any problems.

The nicest thing is that my other half bought me this to say thanks for the last two years helping her look after her late Father, who suffered from a rapid form of vascular dementia. It was very tough on us both and she needed all the support I could give.

Cheers

Tim

Sounds like you had ONE surprise!

Almost all of your report sounds great, but can I suggest one mod which would cost you less than a tenner, and could potentially save you an awful lot more than that?

It's an HR Poly LiPo voltage warning device.
HotRod (a guy on the Piccolo BBS) designed and builds them, and he's just bought out a new version - see link:

I just hate the idea of anyone's heli falling out of the sky because the P25 has decided that it's no longer happy with the voltage (if that's how it works - I don't even go there).

You simply connect the HR Poly in parallel with your ESC/battery connections (on the ESC side of course), and then set your cutoff lower.

Advantage: A voltage warning light/beeper at least gives YOU the choice of when and where to land, rather than frantically trying to auto it in somewhere with failing controls!

If it saves just one set of blades then it'll have paid for itself, and to be honest, I find the idea of coloured flashing lights, little noises and data logging from such a tiny component really cool!

Its works good, its quite funny powering up the heli now, what with the cc25 cell count beeper thing and then this lipo alarm beeping, doing its cell check afterwards. Makes it sound like a demented flying Stylophone
