Found some additional info to confirm my memory. It looks like in 1993, OS Engines MFG Co joined with Futaba Corporation. I believe that Futaba purchased them.

Scroll down, click the HISTORY button, and look down to 1993.

OS bought by Futaba.

Nascar? Cool..I know they've been running F1 for years and actually produce technology used in the cars. Futaba is a huge tech firm and the RC end is just a sideline.I believe the sensor in the 601 stemmed from car research.

You might want to double check that one.

Hey Alistair Yer may be right. ...I'v been a fan of F1 for over 40 years but this season killed it for me, too techy not much racing looking for some drivers with balls thought nascar might be fun but dont get going round in circles

If Futaba owns YS then why isn't Great Planes the US distributor for YS engines like they are for Futaba radios and OS engines? Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense that Great Planes has to get their YS engines from another distributor when they already distribute OS and Futaba products.

Futaba does NOT own YS. Futaba America at one time was the YS distributor here in the US but that ended when Futaba America was taken over by Hobbico/Great Planes/Tower and the YS franchise went to Performance Specialties. Futaba may still distribute YS engines in other parts of the world as they once did here.

After Ogawa Seike (founder of OS) died in 1992 the company was sold to Futaba
in 1993.

Just because Futaba owns YS doesn't mean that Futaba decides who gets to distribute YS. A lot of companies are not that tightly joined.

Example: Samsung has a cell phone division and a flash memory division. Flash memory is used in cell phones. Samsung cell phone division buys flash memory from Intel Corp to us in there phones and NOT from Samsung flash division! Why? They prefer the Intel product to the Samsung product. This might change as Samsung and Intel flash evolves, but they definitely are not in lockstep inside the Samsung divisions. The real funny thing about this is it makes Samsung one of the leading competitors to Intel AND one of the leading customers of Intel all at the same time.
