hi all. i have a 401 and 601 that have both been through a few mild crashes. there is no physical damage visible on the cases of either gryo, but they do not seem to be performing as well as they used to. the 401 does not hold well anymore, and the 601 exhibits a strange random drift once in a while that lasts for a second or two, then goes away. both gyros still work, but it seems like the crashes have taken a bit of performance off them. i have another newer 401/9253 that performs way better. it's not the helis either. i have moved the crashed gyros around to different helis, and the same problems exist. has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? can futaba repair a gyro is this condidtion? thanks.

i had a 601 that i felt didn't hold as well it also started to wag the tail every now and then,

I think it had about 5 crashes on it, i decided that perhaps the servo was getting tired and replaced it,

solved my problem.

Yes it can Ben.

Recently had it happen to me, although the crash on my Extreme wasn;t so mild. Lockout at altitude in governed idle-up mode..all the way into the ground and 175 flights before the mishap.

I purchased a new gyro and sent the damaged one in for repair. Now I can alternate

Best Regards, Dario

Strangely enough Ben I had a mild dump from about 12 feet the other day when I had a power cut and being in the twilight zone of no point going negative pitch and not enough enrgy to make a soft landing I bounced medium hard. Actualy I was really lucky that the ground was incredibly soft (lots and lots of rain recently) and the frontlanding bow snapped on one side all of which was enough to absorb most of the energy and it didnt tip over. Anyhow enough of the background; since then I have been having very strange behaviour from my 601 -- in normal mode it seems pretty much OK but in HH if i am hovering slowly around applying very gentle rudder it seems OK but if I try a piro firstly it hesitates before starting then it whips round some hesitates again whips some more and when the stick is released the tail carries on for about 30deg; its behaves very similarly if i try sharp short applications of rudder i.e. it hesitates and whips etc. and when not doing thst it seems very "grainy" in operation. On the ground with motor off it aeems to work normaly. Another weird thing is on the displayif i go to the rudder control gain parameter in "normal" it shows NCGA130% but when I switch the Tx to HH it reads ACGA***% oh well I guess its of to the service center I realy dont need to deal with a heli that either has no tail control or unstoppable high speed piros.

Funny i went and pulled up data sheets from analog.com about MEMS gyros. They are rated for 2000g power or unpowered in any axis.
