Man how much abuse can these helis take..
I made a complete clanger of an auto this morning trying to be to fancy. . The heli hit so hard it kinda skidded and bounced sideways , my brain said "oh man its gone now".. it will either boomstrike ,, or tip on its side with the rate it was going. it somehow stayed upright. and in one piece. i coudln;t belive it.

That is what happens when you buy the good stuff. My Raptor hold together better than I thought also. We all wear our skids out by doing sliding auto's. Total blast!

boing..

I did a few auto's yesterday that were WAY too fast and couldn't flare fast enough.. BOING.. I bet I bounced 3-4 feet up.. no damage. I'll remember in the future not to go FULL NEGATIVE collective from 20-30 foot up.. duh.

sliders a way fun and easier , the groudn i fly on is not smooth enough for them damn it.and i don;t have th accuracy to land on the cricket pitch.
20 or 30 foot auto's are scary moer so than 150 feet. to little time and u need too much forward speed to get any reserve so its all gotta be perfect. love height where u can evaluate whats going on.

anyway the raptor 50 autos great!!

Don't forget to check your feathering shaft after this. I had a hard landing which I thought I'd done no damage on my Caliber and it turned out I had bent the shaft.

Just give it a quick check by rotating it inside the blade grips with an allen key. If bent, you can see the grips wobble.

Seems better than my Caliber. Almost every crash on that required the frames to be replaced, but the Raptor has held up well so far and I'm still on the first frames after 2 crashes - both pretty hard.

I did have to araldite the canopy fixing point though after the first crash.

Those damn Kyosho feathering shafts bend if you look at them wrong.

Take some JB Weld and make little pads for the skid braces. When you wear it down, mix up another batch.

Good call - I think it is fine though, no vibes - also good to check the belt tension if it was a tad tail first.

I can't believe how strong it is either

I've had 3 absolutely huge crashes, including a midair with a U-CAN-DO-3D (that one is barely suitable for making tooth-picks now), and I'll be darned if after replacing the main shaft, feathering spindle, landing gear skids, booms, and blades, the darn thing doesn't fly better than before! I do have a small crack on the frame, which I strategically Zip-Tied after making two suitably-located holes, and I did bust the battery and receiver holder "lip", at the very front, but some CA and 10 seconds later, it was good as new. The only thing I have to replace for cosmetic value is the windshield, which got clobbered worse every time. It's on order now

I'm getting quite good at re-dialing in all the settings for the pitch and throttle curves at this point

I am half-tempted to sell the Raptor, since I bought a Bergen, but somehow, it being my first "real" RC heli, I don't know if I want to part with it. Maybe if someone wants it badly enough...

Gigi

My heli spending has gone way down since I got a Honda 919 :-)

On the bottom of the skids where they are ground flat, take and clean the area really well. Take a zip tie that is long enough to extend the whole length, cut off the head (big part) of the zip tie. Run a bead of CA down the lenght of the zip tie and set it on the bottom of the skid. I ran another bead down both sides and then clamped it in place to set it and then repeated for the other side. It has held up great and is a cheap fix and works great for sliding. I will try and post a pic later.
