Hey all.

Not sure what else to try here.
I have a Raptor 30V2 with OS 32 engine.
This thing has been running sweet all year until now.

I'm having an over speeding issue going on when I come out of idle up.
As long as it's in idle up and I'm doing my thing... everything seems to be just fine.

When I come out of idle up... the thing over speeds so bad that it sounds like it's going to blow up or something.

I've tried messing with the throttle curve, both raising and lowering points. I have no governor, but I do use radio mixing and they are on switches.

I've also tried cleaning out the fuel system. Filters, new lines, etc...

Not sure what else it could be.

I should mention that this is happening now only after a wicked crash. I thundered hard all... about a complete re-kit. The main frames were broken and/or snapped off in 9 places. Bad part is, I had to use a set of V1 frames. Not sure that this could make that much of a difference though.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Shawn

Have you tryed the low end niddle.

The OS 32 will over speed if you are to lean on the low end.

No... haven't tried the low end needle yet... but messed with the main needle... I tried richening it up and leaning it out.

The weird thing is, for the first 3 tanks after the crash, it flew great... then on the 4th tank.... this all started and it hasn't quit.

Have you checked and replaced clunk line as well as other fuel line?

Have you looked at your pitch curves?

Pitch curves are all good to go.

All fuel lines replaced.

Once the weather turns better, I'm going to get it out again and see what happens... if it starts doing it again, I guess I'll have to mess with the low end and richen it up a bit.

Thanks

It definitely sounds like your curve or mixing is different in idle up -vs-normal. There is no other real reason if you are at the same stick position that the pitch (load) or throttle would change and in effect change the headspeed. Check ALL of your curves and mixing in each mode.

Yep sounds like the idle mixture is too lean.

You said it has been flying fine all year. Has the ambient air temp got any colder where you are, ?

If so this could be the cause, colder air means denser air, so more is going in, so you need more fuel to compensate.

One other possibility is the throttle barrel is "hanging up". This happened to me when the little fork that holds the low end screw got bent. To test it out, put a little side-load on the throttle linkage as you actuate it with the servo (with engine off).

Mixture

That's got to be it guys...

It's cold enough that it snowed here the other day... I'll give the low end a little more fuel and see what happens with that.

As far as the modes and mixures go... like I said, it has been flying great all year. I've really learned a lot on this little 30. Can't wait to get the 90 tho.

Anyway... going from normal to idle up's... basically... I get it into hover and flick the switch to idle up 1. From there I have it so the head speed kicks way up... goes from about 1650 to 2000. This is about the only way I can do half the stuff I'm doin' with this thing. A lot of people have had to ask me if it's a 50 this year... kind of cool actually...

When going back from idle up 1 to normal... basically, yes... just decending and coming in to land, or just to do some low and slow hovering... have to practice that stuff once in a while too right?

Anyway... yeah, I'll give the mixture a little tweaking and see what that does next time I'm out.

Thanks all!

Post back to say how it went. Others'll learn from this if it was the mixture

Well... looks like you guys are partcially right... it is some what of a mixture issue.

I richened up the low needle and it is running better... however... it's still not running quite right... I'll admit it's been fairly cold around here... in fact, yesterday when I went flying I could only do 3 tanks before my hands were to cold to feel the sticks properly.

I'm thinking if I keep messing with the mixture... it will probably be fixed.

Thanks all!
