I just saw a post where the first reply to the question was a link to the RR search engine.... Why? I just don't get it. I consider this hobby as something elite. Those who share in my passion are important to me. Maybe I am seeing this all wrong but it just seems like an ignorant thing to do. If you don't want to help than don't post anything. I know there are a lot of people who ask the same questions over and over, but it's not that hard to just backspace and go on to the next post. I get the feeling sometimes that guys are more interested in their post count than actually furthering our hobby. I could go on for hours, but I have most likely already stirred up the hornets nest.

If you would have used the SEARCH button, you would have seen this has already been gone over.

This has been the topic lately, and its getting old

"Hows the fuel conssumption on a os 50",
Or better yet
"What the Best 50 size heli"
or
"Whats the best muffler for a 90"
or
" Whats the best blades for an auto "
or
Fuel
"Whats the best gyro or servo"
Or
" Can I lift my house with my heli"
or
" Can I stuff a 90 in my Rappy 50"
the list goes on and on
I mean really , My latest proj is Tail night blades, I did a search and got my answer. I did not post "Has anyone used or made tail night blades."
.

Why is it so hard to help a brother?

I hear you. I guess there's two ways of looking at it. There are some people who are just lazy and want all the answers spoon fed to them. There are many questions asked on this forum that are constant repeats, and far too many questions about what is the "best" this or that. And there's the post count thing......

By far, most of the people on this forum are extremely helpful, and I can attest that many of them have gone to great lenghts to help me learn. I'm still a beginner, but have learned a great deal here, but I have to admit, some of the learning came from just not being able to get an answer and was just forced to experiment and trial and error (lots of error!) to figure it out for myself. I think a little of that type of learning is good because you learn HOW or WHY something works rather than just getting the final result answer. You discover a lot along the way.

So, I just slide on by the very few non-helpers and try to hold up my end and repay when I can with my limited knowledge. Sometimes, I even give a right answer and help someone!! That's a cool feeling. All in all, RunRyder is a great forum

Welcome, and keep on asking and searching!!

Rogue,

You forgot Futaba or JR.

Futaba (to be politicaly correct, I guess the JR stuff is fine too)

Here at Runryder you have got to not take things personaly! Unlike plankers, heli guys are usualy a bit upfront and to the point. Take it as you will...but it is all in good fun!

Save time when crossing a one-way street by only looking in one direction

The ones that say "Use the search engine" are somewhat akin to the plank fliers who don't like helis cause they're 'new' and 'dangerous'.

You see when you post a thread asking about a previous question, you are 'hovering over their forum'. That's sort of like hovering a heli over a runway, it makes grumpy old coots mad.

What's worse, when you post a 'why don't you just help me instead of telling me to use the search engine' and they all respond with the equivilant of 'dumb young punks and your new ideas' this is similar to flying 3D at a field while the plane guys are complaining that you don't keep in the pattern.

If you do a search for plank vs. helicopter threads you see that this is a rather... common... dangit.. damn kids.

I agree with you & my post count just increased.
Freedom of speech is good, and along with it comes opinions you like & dislike. Im sure some of my posts have annoyed (not intentional) people, just as some posts have annoyed me.
Thats life I guess.

Some of your brothers here live here. Therefore they take questions that are asked over and over too personal, instead of ignoring them.
So in their rightful place as a big brother, they tell you to search first instead of bugging them with what they already replied to so many times.

I tend to think that suggesting the search function to someone asking a question that has been answered many times already IS helpful... perhaps the person asking the question didn't know about searching and appreciates the pointer.

I've seen people suggest using search in some less than friendly ways at times, and I don't get a good feeling from that particular practice.

All very true. All of the replys have been correct. I too get annoyed by repeated post, questions, etc. I've gotten most of my help from searching. I love this site and certainly am not thrashing, just a bit annoyed by some things.......

P.S. Just watched the Red Sox beat the Yankees...that series was unreal. Good night brothers!!!

search function ...

I would think that people would be glad to be made aware that they can 'do things for themselves' even if they're new. Most heli pilots are self motivators anyway, so to me it's just logical to suggest the search function, it allows the new person to get a whole lot more opinions on his question then he would if he asks a common question that is repeated alot, due to some just skimming over it because they've answered it before, some many times before.

Please don't take offense to the suggestion to 'search', most don't mean anything bad at all by the suggestion.

When I see a newbee post that has been asked a thousand times usually I just answer the question ,if I know the answer that is. Telling them to go use the search engine is like saying Go over there and crash in the corner. Also replying to newbees makes them feel welcomed to the forum.

This subject on searching has been posted before. Try doing a SEARCH to see the results of the search topic a while back.

RR Experts

Whatever topic you search on, you will find all sorts of information, some good, some just plain outright wrong.

Many self proclaimed experts. When I started into heli's, I was fortuneate enough to start with Hirobo. I asked questions here and then called Jeff Green from Altech. You would be amazed at the answers you would get here when contacting Jeff was the easiest thing to do.

I recently had an issue myself. Searched RR and found the answer I needed. Many threads on my subject, some answers were just blaming equipment instead of finding the solution.

why dont mark ryder take the posts that are repeated alot and sticky them? That solves some of it, because then people wanting an answer can see the answer at the top of the page anyway.

How do you determine what is repeated alot?. Why even do that when you can SEARCH. Just ask Mark.

well a good idea would to be to make a sticky for beginners FAQ, and it could include recommended kits for beginners, insurance information etc.
