My tail pinion (purple) is starting to wear out. I hear that it's pressed on and is difficult to take off. Am I better off getting another tail shaft and putting on Ultem or Blue gears? I would I take the gear off to replace it? Thanks!

I have never seen just the gear itself for the tail. I am pretty sure that you have to buy a new drive shaft(Not a purple gear anymore).

With the blue gears, it would probably be best to use a brass tail pinion then. right? So in order to replace the purple gear, I have to buy a whole new shaft?

It's not difficult to get the pinion off. Prop the pinion up on something (I used a vice) and tap the carbon rod out with something a little bit smaller in diameter than the rod.

Who sells the pinions seperately? Also the stock shaft's input gear, is there a set screw in it or is that pressed on also?

You can get spare pinions from http://www.sparrowproducts.com and hold them on with the 680 green loctite. Only $3.95!

The input gear is just pressed on.

How do I get the old one off without bending or messing up the tail boom and/or tail shaft?

I used the GWS standard gear pulller, and tail pinion came out easily without leaving any mark on the shaft.
