If you think landing a control line speed model bears any resemblence to landing a an RC heli....

They have no throttle.... the throttle is always fully open, you can't cut the engine...

The only way you can land is when the tank runs out (or you bury the thing....)

As many have mentioned previously that looks extremely boring.... but I'm sure those who do it enjoy it.

Glad I chose helis, the kings of the modelling world!

PS Have they tried turbines yet?

Probably just like train spotting but without the dizziness

It is definately an aquired taste, but the devil is in the detail with that hobby, so it offers a lot of challenge to get an edge...

And dont forget there are other control line disciplines, combat, stunt as well as the speed events...

Combat is very impressive...!!!

I flew controline stunt and combat for most of my teenage years. The secret to not getting dizzy is walking in a small circle rather than spinning around in the center. It may look boring from a spectator's view point but it is actually far more demanding than flying a helicopter!

I agree. I used to fly control line racing events, such as Goodyear and Rat racing. For you guys that don't know, a Rat had a 6.5cc engine (.40) running full bore at 22000 RPM. On 60' lines, the speeds were 170+, and you are doing this with two other people in the circle with you. To pass, you have to fly over the top of the other airplanes. When you are getting low on fuel, you give a rapid down-up on the handle, which activates the fuel cut-off, you land, your pit man fuels you, and off you go again. A good pit man could refuel and have you going again in 10 seconds. The Rats had like a 25 lb pull on the lines, try flying that for 100 laps and see if you get tired!!
