My Joker Cx's tail is really starting to piss me off lately. I am running a 401/9254 and the tail is no where near as locked as I would like. It is starting to really show when I shoot videos.

I mean it holds but not as precisely as say an Ion's tail

Anyone have any suggestions?? It is pretty good when the wind is calm but any wind and it kinda does its own thing.

I am running ms tail blades and it seems to have plenty of authority. Maybe the aluminum support is producing enough friction to mess with the gyro/servo?

Wait...Wait...

I want to beat everyone else to it...ready.....
Put a GY601 in there.

Just kidding tabb.
That thing must be possed. You are having more problems with that tail.

Try moving the servo ball in and out on the horn. I have found that each heli is different when it comes to the servo horn with the 401.

Try putting it way out on the horn and use the large round horn not a star so you can get it dead nuts on 90.

If that doesn't work then try going inside where you were, but turn the gain way down after you do it.

I think it is the gryo final output resolution not the tail mechanics.
You may also try going with a wider cord tailblade. Something like the SABs or even just for test purposes the stock MA plastic ones.

Tabby:

The only time I had a tail problem was when something was loose, otherwise both the CX and Maxi are locked solid. Both with 401's, the Maxi has a 9253, the CX has a 9254.

What size tail blades are you running?

Have you tried it without a governor to see if that is kicking it a little when it adjusts the speed? What speed controller? The Schulze in 'expert' mode did that to me, in 'standard' mode it works great.

Jason, Thanks for the tips. I will give some other tails a try.

Greg, I am not sure on the tails right now. They are the MS tails made for 60 to 90 size helis I believe.

Also you might be onto something with the governor, I might have left it in expert mode (I am running a schulze 32.55K)

I am going to try some T curves tommorow and see how that goes. Mechanically everything is good, smooth as silk etc.

The only weak point IMO is the aluminum tail rod support, you know that squeaks inccesantly

Thanks guys

Switch it from 'expert' to 'standard' first and see if that does it, then try curves. I found that the 'standard' mode works great.

Hi Tabb,

Can you show some sample video so we can see how bad the tail is kicking?

Are you still using the aluminum tail boom?

What is your headspeed?

I'm also using the 401/9254 combo in my CX.
I'll post my gyro/atv/servo horn setup tonight when I get home.

Cheers,
Jeff

I was using a 601 with 105's Rotortech and it had very good grip.
The 401 would be good with the new 9254 servo.
