Heres the YS home web site. there is no 91 ST4 it is a 91 ST. You can get the specs here.

According to the YS Performance website, there is a YS 91 ST4. I couldn't tell you if this is just a difference in name between the US & Japan, but the discription is out there and people will reference it as such.

Theres is no 91 ST 4 made by YS,some morron started calling the 80 an 80 ST3 so everybody started calling the 91 an ST4. Look whats stamped on the mounting lug on the Engine, it says 91 ST,the 61 ST2 has 61 ST2 stamped on it, The 80 has 80 ST stamped on it. Look at the owners manual it says 91 ST, 80 ST, 61 ST2. just because some morron calls it a ST 4 doesn't make it so. Look at the YS home page they only have 80ST and 91 ST,there is no japan version or usa version.

I never stated that there was a US and Japan version. I stated that I did not know if this was a difference in name between the US & Japan. My reason for stating this was because the website you posted is a Japanese site and the one I provided the link to was a US site.

As for the call outs you referenced on the motor casing and in the owners manual, I am well aware of what they say. However, not all manufacturers will spend the money to update tooling or hard copy releases for something as minor as a slight name designation change.

I don't know who first called it a ST 4 and frankly, I really don't care as most people will, in the end, simply refer to it as a 90 or 91. The purpose of my post was to point out that the reason its being referred to as an ST 4 is because, be it right or wrong, that's what's on the ysperformance.com site.

Hi Garry-boy,

Mike billington has Dyno tested both of these engines on behalf of UK Model Helicopter World magazine.

If you mail: MHW@Traplet.com they may be able to tell you which issues the engines are relevant to the engine tests and if they have those back-issues available to order.

Thanks Russ do you know will they be able just to give me the numbers I need, or I will have to order UK Model Helicopter World magazine?
YS91 peak is said to be around 14500rpm.
The point is to understand where it gives the most power, so do you know what power output are on that rpms
Heres the YS home web site. there is no 91 ST4 it is a 91 ST. You can get the specs here
Actually I was always confused about that ST2 or ST4, because the one we get here is ST2, and I was thinking that probably ST4 is the version for USA market. Guys on http://www.ysperformance.com/ keep calling YS91 not ST2 but ST4.

That japanese web site i gave you is YAMADA,the manufacturer of YS engines. Performance specialties is the US distributor. YS is very anal about the numbering of their engines. There were 3 versions of the 61 heli engine the 61 ST, 61 ST1 and 61 ST2. There is 1 version of the 80 the 80 ST.there is 1 version of the 91 the 91 ST.

Are you sure???
I know that even Webra got 3,5hp.
And that O.S.91 got 3,15-3,25hp.
Are sure that Yamada is that powerful?
Yes my bad, there is 2 versions of the 91
What is the difference between them? And why there is only one 91 on Japan web if there are two of them?

Head color and carb. I dont know why,and the STR is not available from US retailers, you have to get it from overseas and Performance specialties will not warrenty them.

It has a remote needle for the Mid range it looks like, dont know why you would want that except for FAI mabey. Would have made more sense to use the remote on the main needle. Theres not much good info on the STR yet but if the rest of the motor is the same as the ST then there wont be a power increase. It's possible they lowered the compression with the new head but untill someone does a review who knows? Im not sure but if the 91 is like the 80 the midrange has an effect on the wide open or main needle mixture, The mid range and main needle have 2 seperate fuel delivery holes in the barrel on the 80 but i havn't looked at my 91 yet and it has a different carb than the 80.
Unlike the OS the YS has three seperate fuel delivery holes in the barrel for the IDLE,MID,and MAIN needle settings. DOUG
