The Evo tail case screws are 2.6mm phillips. I've lost some nuts and would like to replace the screws with cap head and nylock nuts. Can I use 2.5mm instead of 2.6mm as they are much easier to find?

2.5's will work fine

thunder tiger also sells 2.6's for less $$ than
Hirxbx. I think I used 2.6x12 (or was it 10?)

Don't understand why 2.5mm is easy to get there since 2.6 is more prefered inderstrial standard over 2.5mm.

because we're in the US and you're not.

even finding basic metric screws isn't overly
easy here and in particular, 2.6 just isn't.

it may be trivial to find 2.6 in Asia but not here.

Well Timed Thread

Had a boom strike on my evo while practicing autos. When I was putting it back together, I found I had a couple of nuts / screws missing. (Always had a couple of screws loose, but these were on the tail)

I replaced with 2.5 for now. I'll have to stock up on the 2.6 screws though...

the local screw store told me they do not stock 2.6 nylon nut since it is rare, but 2.5 is OK.
So I replaced all to 2.5 in the tail and have about 15 gallons, still strong, no problem.

I think you'll find that the x10's are tiny bit too
short and dont stick out 2 threads. I'm sure
they'll work fine but just something to be
aware of.
