Hello,

I just finished building my Hornet II. I am using:
Razor V.2
4 Hs50'
3 Cell 122mAh Lipo's
GY401 Gyro
10 Tooth Pinion

The problem I am having is that during flight the heli constantly asends and decends rapidly (within 3 feet).

If I hold the heli in my hand and give it throttle it does not feel like the main blades are changing speed or pitch.

Everything is smooth in the drivetrain. No binding.

I installed the ball-in swash mod.

I have spent 3 days tring to solve this problem.

Any ideas?

Thank you

if the up and down motion occurs occasionally and in the blink of an eye (with a one-time WAH noise) then I'd say that it's a servo glitching for some reason, try re-routing the antenna and/or servo leads, move the ESC further away from the receiver, if that doesnt work, try swapping out the ccpm servos.

if the up and down is rather constant and slow in nature (1 or 2 seconds) then it's probably the environment. flying in small confined spaces can induce some air currents in the room, air conditioning or heaters can cause havoc, and if you fly outside, well, mother nature is always an issue.

I hope this provides some ideas, it's hard to diagnose these things over a bulletin board.

Can be also caused by low RPM.

Hi

Try changing the attachment point on the servo arms to the inner most hole on the 3 CCPM servo's.
If this problem is just happening at a high head speed then it's probably your blades, the older unweighted blades lead in flight a little so are not stable and will/can show this behaviour, the weighted blades are much better.
There has been info on how to weight your existing blades if you do a search.

Hope this helps

I have been working on this problem for three years. I just dont know, but I do know that it has to do with the speed controll. I tried cc10 cc25 cc35 jeti18-p and all of them have the same problem. I have rerouted the components dozens of ways, but no change. I swiched back to stock motor and pixie 20 speed controll and the pop/drop is still there but it is almost unoticeable.

What speed controller are you using? I had a similar problem running a Himax motor on a cc10 in governor mode. The new beta software has fixed that problem for me. The gov. is a little fast on start up but works nicely now. Also, I use a 12T pinion on my 4100 motor. If the Kv is similar on your motor, I suggest bumping up your pinion to 12T as well.

Since the HII requires only small servo travels to create large collective output, make sure all your radio settings are tweeked (pitch curves and ccpm settings etc.)

Last, keep an eye on E073. It needs to be slop free and have no binding. I use a little lithium grease here and on the pins.

I hope some of this info can smooth out your bumpy ride

Thanks for the replies everybody.
I am sure it is not a receiver glitch problem.
I am flying indoors. No strong air currents.

This is my 3rd heli. I had a Hummingbird and a Shogun and never experienced a problem like this..

Bob I will try another set of blade I have.

I am using a CC10 ESC. It is like the speed is changing on its own.

Any Hornet flyers in SE Florida?

Thanks

Problem solved.

I had part E072 turned upside down. I had my heli setup so the swashplate moved up and the pitch increased when the throttle stick was moved up.

I turned E072 over and reversed the servos. Now all is good.

Thanks everyone!

Hey! I'm having a similar problem. I have the bell hiller upgrade and my helicopter drops up and down. When I went to governor mode, it was even worse. I'm using the twister with the MS116 ESC with a JR8103. Thanks!
