Hi JR guys...

I have to many helis ... this weekend I visited a friend that is, well quite into this RC hobby - runs a store and more.. he just got into Jets - so he had to get some $$ for his two new jets

Before this visit - I had a 9x TX and 3 planes. after the visit I came home with 10x TX and one assembled Sylphide 90/OS91 with dual glow plug head - GV1, all digital servos and 550 gyro.

I plan to change the Gyro to CSM 560 - as I'm using csm560 in the rest of the heli fleet (2x vt50, 1x rap90, one 50 v-imz! wow! demit that's to much!)..but now I have no planes!!!

the guy that assembled the Sylphide is very able, and I trust him very well... (very skilled in assembling models). but, as this was totally not planned (that I would walk out with a Sylphide 90)...

The Sylphide 90 has only had one flight - so the motor has yet to been run in -

are there any special points that I should be aware of ... I have the Raptor 90 - and there are quite many things to watch out , like breaking tail rotors, main hubs, one way bearings....etc.

or is this just the perfect heli !

pse comment if U know of anything! I did a search here and did not find anything of interest...except threads looking for the prefect FAI heli

I have buildt and flow a Sylphide for one year now.

There is a few thing to pay attention to:

The rotorheadbearing is NOT gresed from the supplier. so dismantle everything and apply grease to the bearing.

The roll response with black dampers and standard paddlers with one piece of lead weight is very slow.
I have modified the ball on the swash plate to the same type as for the elevator. This increase the leng by a few mm.

You can also put on some harder white dampers

Next you must pay attention to the tail belt tension. I have sean on a Venture 90 with the same tail, that the belt was too lose.
This resulted in teeths comming of the belt.

For the rotor head setup i have done a lot of test and trials se also the discussion here on run ryder on rotohead setup.

Benedikt,

Cogratulations on buying the SY90, you will love it, especially when you fly it for the first time and notice it doesn't make the noise "other" helis make, but the typical soft Sylphide purr.
I also own both Sylphide and Raptor90 and while I still love the Raptor for its simplicity and flying skills, there is no comparison between the two.
I have flown the SY90 for a year now and has been through a lot of fuel, and I have not encountered a real weak spot, except for the one-way bearing maybe. While I have not had any trouble with it myself, I have seen it locking up with other pilots. From the start I have rinsed the bearing clean of grease and re-greased it with Tamiya differential grease, and it has worked flawlessly since then.
There is a solution to the problem however, a special one way bearing is available from AK-MOD in Switzerland.
Also, pay real close attention to the run-out of the fan and clutch.
The original plastic fan is , I regret to say, JUNK !
From new, this only real cheap part of the kit has a run-out of 2mm !!!
also the 2nd one I bought was out by 2mm . Very quickly I installed an upgrade metal fan from JR and that is a very nice piece.
Use a dial-indicator to set the run-out on fan and clutch to less then 0,02 mm. Because the clutch is so heavy a higher run-out will cause vibrations that will show as foaming in the tank, and it will cause other problems like shorter life of radio components.

Enjoy flying !

I love my Sylphide, I've done a tonne of flying with them now and am very happy with the machine.

Perhaps the only trouble I've had is with the boom support posts breaking, although that has stopped now.

Until you get it setup, the adjustable dampening rings can be a pain in the ass, if one side is tighter than the other, the rolls will go to crap.

I love the sound of it in the air, sounds like a turbine steaming through the aeros, especially with the Funtech muffler. It's none too slow either.

I haven't had any trouble with auto bearings, but my one is a later model one, I do know the earlier ones did have trouble.

Si

I agree with you that this machine is lovely.

I have just ordered a new kit. I will than spend the cold and dark winter to build it.

When i am building a new helikopter i always buy a bottle of XO Cognac to drink during the building prosess.

To sit and look at the project with a nice cognac in the glass hmmm you should try it. .

Cheers for the dark winther

yes.. damn the weather... now winter us up on us here in Iceland, outside now is cold and very windy.

the guy I got the Sylphide from said the worst thing about assembling this kit...is that every other kit is just junk compared to this one. and you get no pleasure of building other helis

I build the Voyager IMZ..that was a nice one...Raptor 90, just crude and messy compared to the IMZ..so the Sylphide is ..well.. in a class of it's own.
