I was wondering what you guys use for starting 90 size engines. I use a normal sealed 12v 14mah battery and sullivan dynatron 12-24v starter which struggles a lot, its a newish engine but there just isn't enough grunt in the battery (even when fully charged)

I'm looking to change my battery for better grunt on my starter but not too sure what to get. I don't really want to carry more weight around if I can help it.

Plenty of discussion on 90 size starters search for Dynatron.

First, you are in good stead with the Dynatron. I just bought one.

Second, you need to up the voltage. 12 volts just won't or barely turns the 90 over. Either get two 12 volt batteries and wire in series == 24 volts. Or get two 8 cell nicad or nimah packs wire in series == 19.2 volts and strap them to the dynatron.

This will turn over your 90. It's just a matter of horsepower.

starters

I just got a new OS 91 c spec ps and I start it with a sullivan dynatron hooked up to 2 -12V. batt for 24v. and it turns the c spec very easy.

If you keep doing the same thing…...you’re going to get the same results!

Using a Hobbico 90 which was way underpowered I ran about a week heavily loading up the 90 on the OS 91. and running my OS 50.

That's good for about 2 dozen or more flights. They are also 3000 MAH batteries. I got them from this site:

Thanks guys, I bought two 12v gp3300 packs and joined them together in series, what a monster, turns it without a sweat. Now I just got to work out how to join these battery packs to the dynatron starter. Any ideas ?

Thanks
