Guys,
What would a good starter radio be? I would like to buy something that I can grow with, but something that is under $500.

Also, what are the other electronics I need?

-Servos

-Gyro

-Rx

-Speed Controller (for electric micro)

Also, if I want to use more than one heli with my new radio do I just buy the same kind of Rx and put it on the same frequency as my Tx?

Thanks!

I think I am going to go with the Futaba 7CHF.

Do I want PCM or FM?

As far as I understand the radios can do both, but the Rx that comes with can only handle one type of modulation.

Thanks again!!

Hi
PPM or PCM are the type of FM Rx (reciever)and there has been much discussion on the forum about the differences.

I started with PPM (cheaper) then changed to PCM because It allows me to use the failsafe feature of my Tx (transmitter) which sets my servos to a position I feel would be safest in the event of radio or electrical failure.

Don't forget the RD8000, I started with the RD6000 and loved it. The only reason I upgraded was the fact that i wanted more channels (wanted to do scale). I have the 8103 and love it. The rd8000 is around $300, and comes with everything you will need. The nice thing is Airtronics and JR speak to one another so if you want a JR radio later you can do that without changing all of your electronics. The Futaba will talk with Hitec. What do they fly near you, because most likely you will want a little help with setup.

If you want a cheap heading hold gyro let me know. I have an almost new Airtronics gyro that will get you started. I got my 401 working again, so it sits in the package.

I use the Futaba FF9 which is really good. I started with a FF7 but then ran into difficulties when programing for helis so i would recomend that you should buy a transmitter that you will not need to replace because in the long term you will save money. - Which means more money for Helis
