Well, here are some pictures of my Predator on her 1st day at the field.
No problems encountered, even though my tail gears had a rough spot that need to mess/mate together it did not make any horrible noises (although it does make more mechanical noise than my Hirobo XSpec), actually it makes a rather cool sound when you cut the engine while she still has head speed, sounds a little like a turbine spooling down (???). She seems pretty responsive, I compressed the curves and put expo in so hovering was easy and stable - put 5 or 6 tanks through the OS 91 CSpec. Another 4 tanks and I think we'll start getting lively.

if you painted that windshield it's gonna melt on you. Mine did and wasn't even painted.

Just curious. Why would the windshield melt? Hadn't heard that one yet.

Build it, fly it, crash it. Repeat as often as needed.

I have not weighted it yet, it does feel lighter than my XSpec but not by a huge amount, I am planning on doing a big comparison of the two with pictures and posting it...

I did paint the inside of the canopy with polycarbonate spray paint - will be careful to keep her in the club house between flights (would only be an issue during the summer I imagine).

Painted windshield

When you paint he windsheild It holds the heat more. It will warp in time.
At least they do it here in sunny florida. You are running 9451's on the cyclic. Have you used them in a heli before? Futaba does not recommend them for heli use. I do not know why? How are they working for you. I use 9252 servos but replace the gear sets with ones from the 9451's. They seem to hold up to crashes better, Still have a small plastic gear for a weak point, but much stronger than 9252 gears.

A Arm

I see from your pic you have plastic arm. Dump it before it dumps you. I have never lost a heli because of one, but I have seem them cracked right out of the bag. Even the heavy duty ones. The metal will cost a little but worth it in the long run. Will save you from rebuilding.

Thanks Rodney:

Windshield: I think Florida is likely to be hotter than Sydney, but it's good to know of the potential problem.

The A Arm is the heavy duty one - they come standard with the Carbon Max. I am planning for a metal flybar cage and metal A Arm upgrade when I have broken this bird in (she's quite tight - all the ball joints are a little stiff - don't believe in manually relieving them but it is showing in my per flight battery consumption). However the A Arm upgrade is a frame split job to install so not really looking forward to that.

The 9451's are a interesting topic. I like them cos of the metal gears and have more torque and on paper they are a bit quicker than 9252's. In practice you can't notice the speed (of course). I also have them on my Freya 60 and my XSpec 90. Have not experienced any problems. (The 9252's are also excellent, no question about it).

Interestingly, a few of us here are running a car servo on the Freya collective, 9350. We use it to take the beating from pitch pumping and tick toc's. I have a 9151 on the Freya collective and 9350 on the XSpec collective.

Obviously with the Predator being CCPM the THREE 9451's are up to almost any beating one can hand out.

Jafa,

I agree with Rodney on the "A" arm issue. It is very cheap insurance to get the aluminum piece. It is actually the ball link area that fails and the aluminum piece uses a heavy duty link.

The windshield will warp if left in the sun too long, and if it's painted black, will warp in a shorter period of time. I've been painting mine from the inside with a dark silver paint first followed by black, looks better than clear, and so far is holding up to the sun much better than black.

Very Nice. What voltage are you running to the 9451s? Jason Krause was running a dual voltage system in his Raptor at IRCHA; 6V to 9451s and 5v to the gyro.

Just curious about what kind of paint you guys are using on those windsheilds? Is it a Lexan type of paint that you'd normally use on RC cars?

Actually, since it isn't exposed to the fuel, I've been using automotive rattle can paint. Wish my luck would change, but so far it's been lasting longer than the rest of the canopy!
