bought a heli with a os 91sxh that sat fo some time and looking through the exhaust port you can see some light rust on the ring. pulled it apart and it seems the ring was corroded on the piston and sits in the groove kinda tight. everything looks good except the ring is tight. can i replace the ring only and be ok? motor has 5 gallons through it and the sleeve looks great also. thanks nick.

Assuming that there is no damaged to the liner bore.

I would carefully clean out the ring groove without damaging the piston, maybe clean the liner bore with a scotch pad, replace the ring & re-assemble.

Make sure there is not a ridge in the bore where the ring has sat.

Although I partly agree with your comments the fact that nickracer9 say's,
the ring was corroded on the piston and sits in the groove kinda tight.
Sound's like it may need a little clean up & for the cost of a ring......?

Depends how badly it is corroded.

no..... it's fine.... i don't think he should have even removed the engine...

it is basically new...

5 gallons of fuel through it... just hasn't run in a bit of time...

i've had OS engines sitting on shelves for like 10 fooking years... didn't run the fuel out, no after run...

don't even wipe the dust off of them, and they fire right up...

so.......................... engine=fine

don't take it apart 'till you kill it... just make sure it's tight...

go fly

Careful guys, I thought I'd got away from that rec.models.rc.helicopter type banter.

FWIW, with that 90 sized engine, I'd get a ring and replace it unless you know its history. Its not just the engine you'll knacker if its rusted, but the expensive heli its just stopped powering
