The middle picture with the push pull is not an imperio it is a Jr helicopter the control system of the imperio is similar to that of the kalt
baron/ enforcer

The imperio has the collective driven by a rod through the centre of the mainshaft. The canopy is carbon fibre not cheapo fibreglass

It is a separate heli to the raptors - but designed by Taya. Looks like a lot of the ideas and general look got translated into the Raptor 60 - in a much cheaper fashion !

Its mccpm - Taya has stated that he considers that ccpm is used by designers who can't engineer a decent mccpm system.......

Ben2,

the second picture that you showed wasn't the mainframe of the imperio. The imperio uses a fixed swashplate instead of any type of CCPM. It uses a shaft through the main shaft that pushes the washout up and down. Also the bell mixers are located on the washout assembly.

rappyfly,

That is true that the head is free flapping axles on each blade grip. The damping is adjusted via headspeed. Basically the hinge offset of its head is so far out that at 1800rpm the head is virtually rigid due to the pull force of the blades trying to pull the hinges into a straight line. Its actually a very nice rotor head. Also the drivetrain is a 2 stage planetary gear drive similar to what was used on the Kalt Enforcer. It's similar because Taya designed the enforcer as well. The tail pushrod is similar to the fury design. Or in reality the fury tail pushrod design was borrowed from the imperio. Basically carbon pushrod to a bellcrank then another carbon pushrod right below the tailboom all the way to the tail. The main frame is a stacked frame style however the spacers are keyed into the carbon frames so even if you take out the screws that hold the spacer in, the spacer will still not come off until you pull the frame apart. My major complaint with the imperio was that i couldn't fit a YS engine in because there is not enough space to clear the fuel regulator assembly from hitting the planetary drive. Remember that at the time the machine was designed the mostly used engine in japan was the OS. Only recently has their top F3c pilots started moving over to YS.

It didn't take off here in the US. but it definately took off in Japan. In japan it was sold under the original manufacturer name of Taya Engineering. It was use as a 3d and F3c machine in Japan. The problem in the US is that the machine is $2300+ and also Ace said they were going to support it but did not. As some have waited over 2 years to get a fuel tank. They just ordered it from japan and got it in 3 days in the end. Also most people in the US dont want to 3d a $2300 airframe.

IMZ Caliber,

I’m sure that you are right that the second isn’t an Imperio.
I got this pic’s from a flying buddy a year ago when I was orientating for a new heli.
Sorry to you all for this mistake

Thats definately the heli. Also Yamaguchi was the pilot that flew that helicopter in 2000 at ircha. I believe that he flew it up till 2002. the angled engine was for easier acess to start the engine via shaft from te top and glow plug is now angled downward as well. This has another effect. The overall airframe size is not much larger than a raptor 30 airframe. It was very compact however very stiff at the same time.

The main frame is not much bigger but the overall length is about the same as a 90. The tail boom is 25mm diameter and the distance from blade bolt to blade bolt is 12 inches. By making the airframe very compact the CG is also very close to the mainshaft. The battery was originally meant to be where the gyro control box is in the picture. That brings the cg closer to the rotor head which is more ideal for flipping and flopping. The biggest reason the heli is able to be so small is because of the 2 stage planetary drive. Which by the way Taya makes a 90 gear set for the heli as well. The 90 gear set was demoed at the 2000 ircha event. The only thing that the small size has against it is that when you work on it, you basically take it all apart. Outside of that there really aren't many frames out there that are stiffer than it. The solid plate used for the gyro is more than it seems as well. It has been milled out on the back side for wieght reduction. I really believe that the imperio is the prototype helicopter that Kyosho, Kalt, and TT said was too expensive to produce. So he was told to make its cheaper thus we were left with the concept's, nexus, Enforcer's, and raptors. Actually the raptors design is the only mainframe, washout, head, and control system that doesn't quite resemble the imperio because when he was done with the others he most likely discovered that there isn't as way to make a cheaper version and have the performance.

There must be a cheaper way of getting these mail order out of Japan. (slightly cheaper anyway). I am sure there are some good comapnies there to deal with, 1 that I have delt with before though dont stock TT. http://www.ishiimokei.com/ ... I have been in the market for a big bird and this is one of the top on my list. Need to get stuff mail ordered in switzerland because as a rule we pay 30 to 40% more. (I think the swiss believe that it is somehow better if you pay more)

if at first you dont succeed, destroy any evidence of having tried in the first place ...

The design resembles the Space Baron/Enforcer so much it's scary. The servo layout, angled engine mount, planetary gear, pushrod inside main shaft, etc.

The Enforcer design was so far ahead of its time when it was introduced. Too bad it never caught on. I wonder if Taya is working on something new? It's been a while since he introduced anything.

For those who didn't know, Taya designed the Kyosho Concept, Kalt Enforcer, and the Raptor/Amigo we all love. This guy is a genius.

steph280,
I see you have been around long enough to know those platforms. Those platforms are the reason that i think the imperio is the original spared at no expense prototype for those heli's. However kalt and kyosho both said that it is too expensive and he had to make comprimises to the design.

thats awesome :-)

i hope he does come up with something new then!!

what is the advantage of having a pushrod for the swash in he centre of the main shaft?

thanks
