Hey Greg,

Yep, it's gone....kinda wish I didn't as it really flew good, espically once I changed out the 91 and put in a YS80. Oh well I can always get another......

Replacement is a Bell 222, hope to have it finished this week for Baltimore get together. It's already painted and for the 50 size, so we will see.

Heard you are burning some fuel with that turbine, nice I am sure. Looking forward to seeing it fly.

Looks like we have at least 4 people here that are willing to give it a go. It would be nice to have a place that is closer. I know there are a few others that drive to Maryland to fly. I am sure they would also be for it.

Yeah, reallly cool.
Thanks for the invite blockatvalpo! The school is about half an hour from me.

On Sunday I visited the MHA's field. It is quite a lot of driving to the other side of DC, but they have a nice field, and the guys there are really cool. It would be easy to fit in there! Since its a heli only club there is a lot of technical knowledge there. Their open day will be on the 30th. Go to http://www.flymha.com for their flyer.

On the same day I visited the Loudon County Aeromodeller's club as well (http://www.lcaa.com). They have a really nice field too (actually pretty near Herndon, VA where I live - 30min), but no one was there. I talked to one of the members on the phone and they have plane and heli pilots in the club, so all wanting to join are welcome!

I might have to check out the Loudoun one. NVRC is not heli friendly. I fly both, so I want to be able to do both. Hate not to be able to fly one because they are dicks. Let me know if you want to join us on Sunday. So far it looks to be ok, but you never know. I just got my Stryker in today, so I might have to do a little combat.

Great!

Sorry blockatvalpo for not writing sooner.

Was really busy last few days putting my Freya X-Spec together. At last I think I have finished it after a few nights without sleep! It just looks awesome!

Would be great to meet up on Sunday. Please PM me with details, maybe phone number. Thanks a million!

BTW the Loudon County club does eem like a very good place to fly both helis and planes. The members seem to be very nice too. They even keep the forested area around the field clean (they have clean up days!).

Well a few of us got together yesterday to fly. I didn't get mine up but Xagent and mpspx8 were able to fly. I just got my Stryker up before it started raining again. Hopefully I can make it up to MHA this weekend with Xagent. I would really like to have someone check my heli over and put it through the ropes, since I don't . Miro and Mark it was cool getting together with you, even though it was for a short period of time. We will have to get together again.

You guys are welcome to join us any time at MHA. We do have the open house this Saturday, Sunday if it rains. It's posted on the web at http://www.flymha.com and RR. We don't allow planks since it is a heli only club... although lately a few electrics have snuck in a few flights for entertainment sake. The point is, helis will always have priority over planks at MHA.

As far as riding an hour, come on, it is Washington DC. How long does your commute take every day? Half the pilots at our club are from VA. I remember the old days (Before Dennis retired...) when I drove an hour each way to the NV club since they were the only heli club in the area.

Starting a club is a good idea. You just need to have a field before you have a club!

Good luck, maybe see a few of you out this weekend.

Wayne, it will be cool to see MHA. Everyone always talks about it. Hopefully we can get some land/property here in NOVA, but it is doubtful. Lorton might have some, but it is being developed really fast. The other field off Backlick was closed not to long ago, 2 years maybe. Not sure if anyone on here flew there or not.

Mike,

Yes I do, he was originally from Flordia, he might even have competed at some point. He had a fixed pitch Kalt prior to the Concept, no gyro and flew the heck out of it including backwards piro circles. Than finish off by nose in and touch the canopy to the radio antenna.

I remember seeing night flying for the first time also...I think it was Matt with his EZ extra 230 and you working the ???00 candle power hand held spotlight following him around the sky, now that was a first!

I wanted to drag this post back up because I'm looking for a field in the area as I just moved back from college not too long ago. MHA looks fantastic, but at a little under/over 1 hour one-way, is just a little too far for me. It would also limit me to weekend only flying.

I'm in the Centreville, Chantilly area and met a guy a few months ago as I was hovering in a parking lot who mentioned a field, not a club, in the area that some guys would frequently fly at, but I was a fool and didn't pay close enough attention to where he said it was. I just saw a flier (paper, not a person) for Cox Farms this morning and for some reason that rings a bell. This sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,
Dan

Damn this post is still going hu?? Well since someone else brought it back from the dead and I just got kicked out of MHA, I'm all for a club in Northern VA:-) I fly at the local Elementary School here in Alexandria, but used to live in Great Falls and there were and still are some decent fields there. Anyone ever thought about asking NOVA Comunity College?? Have you SEEN their fields?? Freaking HUGE!! If anyone is getting together at schools on weekends or whatever please email me, I would gladly go. People around here LOVE the heli, they always stop to watch from their cars, or come over and say hi and ask questions. With all the retirees, military, and mid life crisis guys in the area I too am supprised nothing has been formed out here. Seems to be quite a bit of interest actually. What does it cost to rent a field? Anyone down to go scouting some Friday or Saturday? Email me cubstyle@comcast.net
