Ok the end of the 6 volt debate. ( yeah right) I just got my 401/9253 combo back from Futaba Service center. The only thing they found wrong with it was the wires. ( got chewed up by the primary drive gear.)

This combo has been running a 5 cell pack from day one, March of 2002. Without a regulator. And yes I had them bench test it for any abnormalities.

daz59,

Fully charged, a 2-cell Li battery will show 8.4 volts. With load, that voltage drops.

On my shuttle I have a CSM SL420 gyro with a JR 8700G tail servo. Awsome combo. My ail/ele are S9001's. Collective is a HS 9545mg and throttle gets a wee 3004.

I bought a 4.8V 3300Mah pack from cheapbatterypacks.com and use that when I dont have my plane. When I have my plane, I put the 3300 in my plane and run 1 of my 1100Mah 6v packs in the heli no prob.
I do that because I fly my plane more than the heli when I have both with me. I like the fact that I can swap packs and use as I need.

My plane has both a 6V and a 4.8V voltage monitor on board, as does my heli, so I have both ends covered.

sharam,

Yes and a fully charged 4 cell NiMh or NiCad pack will show 5.5v.
I didn’t think people quoted some packs by there fully charged voltage and some by there nominal voltage, it just leads to confusion.

Because just like nicds they come off the charger higher than their nominal voltage, which would be 7.4 (2x3.7)

So, who makes a good regulator that would work in a raptor 50. Kinda confused about the amp load they can tolerate or something like that. I plan on making a Li-Ion 7.4 pack for mine and want it regulated down to 6 or less.....any help would be appreciated. Oh and if you know where you can get your recommendations that would be great.
