This is my first post, but have read many threads causing me to go seperates. I have been doing searches on how to setup my 9CHP, but it seems like the TX is giving no signal to the heli. I then tried my old TX that came with the HB (Lightning 4) and it worked! The crystal that I am using for the RX is a Futaba. The reciever is a Berg-5 DSPII. Is there any settings that I need to know in order for the two to work together? Here is the list of parts and where I bought them on my HB.

I am running the 9C in PCM Heli (SWH1) with no revo.

Being new to this hobby with having many questions, this forum is great for advice and help.
Thanks,

Channel.

Sounds silly, but is the new TX on the same channel as the old one?
Also is the rx single or dual conversion and have you put the correct crystal in there if so?
One more check. Is the 9C on PPM or PCM?
I think the Bergs need to have a PPM signal not PCM.

Do you have the futaba Synthesized Frequency module? The Berg RXs won't work with Futaba's Synth Freq module.

The TX is on the same channel, 52. The crystal is a Futaba in the Berg. My LHS said it would work with the Futaba crystal. I have a Berg crystal on the way. How do I know what conversion it is?
What is the Futaba Synthesized Frequency module?

I dont believe the 9c has a syth module yet to know what conversion you are on in the normal screen (the one with the pic of the heli on it) look in the upper right hand corner and it will say either pcm or ppm if it says pcm and it needs to be ppm(fm) I will return w/ my radio shortly to tell you how to change it (cant remember off top of head)

The crystal is a dual conversion. Does that matter?

This should work. I've been using a Berg with my 9CHP for a while.

Two things to check:

1. Are you SURE you're in PPM? You have to go to the parameter screen, change it to PPM by pushing AND HOLDING down the button on the right until it beeps, then pushing again for confirmation.

Then when you exit that screen, you will see PCM flashing (or PPM, can't remember). That is telling you to TURN OFF the radio, then turn it back on.

2. The Berg is capable of positive or negative shift. It is selectable (I believe) by some jumper inside. Make sure it is selected for Futaba or negative shift.

The fact that the Berg is not dual conversion is not a problem. The crystal should not be a problem in this case either.

The berg has auto-shift; I don't think you can manually select it.

Yup, you're right, looks like the 9Z has the synth freq module, but not the 9C

My Berg is the older model and the shift is manual. The new one evidentally is auto.

On second thought, if you're not using Berg's crystal, that could be the problem.

I had same problem

I got a MPI Single Conversion crystal from Century and it worked great. Dual conversion crystals would not work in the micro RXs I have (Century 6ch & Berg 6 Channel)

Conversion

The crystal itself is made as a Dual Conversion or Single conversion.
The RX and the Crystal have to match conversion. SIngle with Single etc..
I would be willing to be you have to use the Berg Crystal with that receiver.
I know the GWS micro rx's are the same way.

Do an internet search for your model receiver and it will tell you if it requires dual or single conversion crystals.

I've got a Berg 6 channel receiver and it works fine with my 9CHP. You definitely have to have the 9CHP in PPM mode though, won't work in PCM mode.

It's Working

I installed the berg crystal that I bought from Helihobby and it works. Wow! What a difference in power from the stock engine to the Brushless and LiPo's. I want to say thanks to all of you for the replies.
One last request. Does anyone have any setting secrets for their 9C that they would like to share. This think is harder to setup than my girlfriend trying to program the VCR to record the Bachelor.
Thanks,
