I have an EVO 50 that I can't get of the tail wag with. Running OS 50 600 Maverick Carbon blades, MVP pipe, 30% cool power, 402 gyro, 9253 tail servo and MAH carbon tail blades, (the ones that came it the kit.) This is a fairly small wag that happens mostly in a hover, whether in normal or idle up. I have the linkage adjusted so it will hold a straight hover in non hh mode. I have checked the linkage for binding and it is a smooth as silk. There is no slope of any kind in the tail linkage and no slope in the grips either. At first I thought it was to rich an engine, leaned it out some and still wags. I have tried different gain settings and the problem is still there or it gets worse. I should also mention that I am using a Futaba 8UHP Super radio as well. I just changed the mounting tape thinking that might be the problem and it is a little better but still noticable. In the gyro menu on the radio I have went back to settings of 25 and 75. This seems to be where it works the best at. I have the gyro set at 0 delay and about 105 on the limit. Any ideas I might have missed would be aprreciated. Other then this it is an awesome helicopter, and I finally used idle up today and felt that tingly feeling you get when things just click. Inverted, loops and even did some rolls, (kinda). I adjusted the pirro rate up a little as well. I had a friend fly it and he did some backward loops and the tail held solid,.
Thanks for the input. If I don't have it fixed by the end of August I will see Jeff Green in August and have him take a look. Thanks Chuck

Two things come to mind,

First possibility I thought about was maybe the thrust bearings in the tail grips are in the wrong way. I misinterpreted the illustration in the manual for that step and got mine in the wrong way, it might have happened to you. If that is the problem it will feel silky smooth on the ground when you mvoe it by hand, and only show up in flight.

The other possibility is that your midrange mixture is a bit too rich. My Caliber got some side to side tail wagging when I richened up the midrange mixture that went away when I leaned it in again.

If it's not either of those I'm all out of ideas. Hope you get it solved soon, the EVO is a wonderful machine.

Are you using Channel 5 ATV to set your gyro gain, or the gyro setup on the 8U? IF you are using channel 5 ATV, 75 too high. Mine is only 45 and it holds well in 3D.

In the menu for gyro I have it set for up 75 and down 25. I have the yellow wire from the gyro plugged into channel 5. I just checked the ATV settings for channel 5 ( gyro) and it is set at 100 both ways.Maybe your right and I am setting up my radio wrong. In the gyro menu on the 8US it says up or down depending on where you have the cursor set. Isn't this the gain for the gyro? The directions on the 401 are a little vague. Thanks, Chuck

With the 8U you can do it different ways. On my Sceadu, I didn't use the gyro function in the radio. Just used channel 5 on the switch and used channel 5 (or Gy) ATV. On the Fury I actually used the gyro programing function in the 8U so that I can use different gains for different Idle ups. Just set it so the gain on the gyro is around 50%. What number you use will depend on if the HH gain is being set by the radio with 50 as the switching point between normal and HH, or if each side of the switch goes from 0-100 (as with the 8U). If I'm not clear, just try turning the gain down (all I'm really trying to say)....

Problem Solved

After some time the problem is solved. I was adjusting the gain the wrong way. I have about 47% gain and it works great. I also readjusted the servo center and readjusted the pushrod for normal hover. Holds tail very nice now. Thanks for all the help. Chuck
