Hey guys,

Just noticed today that my Evo main gear seems to have quite a bit of vertical play on the shaft. Any of you have this problem? Do I need to eliminate this up and down play and if so how? I should mention that this heli has about 7 gallons via my hand run through it and probably another 10 or so from the previous owner so it's probably a wear issue. Just not sure what I should replace to get rid of the play.

Thanks,

Mike

Ummm........guys I think you misunderstand. I have no up and down play on the main shaft itself. Head button is pulled up and shaft ring has been locked down. This is vertical play on just the main gear.

well, I think you need to remove the gear
assembly open it up and see whats going
on. its really kind of simple and there shouldn't
be slop in it. perhaps you're missing one of the
2 big bronze bushings.

you're supposed to have:

2 bronze bushings
1 very thin washer
1 auto bearing
1 hardened sleeve

Took it apart Z and all the parts were there. I wonder if maybe the brass bushing are starting to wear? The main gear is moving up and down on the hardened sleeve.

Is it my Sceadu you are reffering to? I can feel the same, the bronzebushings are getting slightly worned, so I flipped them over.
The up and down play got slighly better.

'Hm now I just have to find out where to connect the GV1 sensor to the Jazz80 ESC.

It just might be Did the same thing you did with the bronze bushing flip. Eliminated some of the up and down play, but not all of it. Doesn't seem to hurt performance any so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.

I also noticed some up and down play on the main gear on my EVO50 a few weeks ago when I changed it to a delrin. Did not find anything obvious wrong and just accepted the play. So far I haven’t noticed any adverse flight performance.

I had the same problem during assembly of my new EVO. I eliminated it by adding another shim in the auto hub - between the brass bushing and plastic housing. Some kits may have this problem and some not, but its a easy fix.

Hope this helps.

Kino,

I read your thread on the link you provided, did you have any verticle play left on the main gear after you added shims? Mine has about 1mm or so left, I have 5gal. of fuel through the heli with not problems of gold dust, glitches, etc.

I made sure of this because any moving part should have some clearance otherwise it will get damaged or destroyed.

Same thing applies for the hex coupler (where you instert the starter wand) and top clutch bell bearing, there should be minimal vertical movement.

Anyways, thanks for your concern.
